She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

If she is hand turning the growth/development will look like it's developing on one side (the side of the egg that is facing up). When you turn the egg the development will turn and resurface on the side of the egg that is facing up. A prime example of why we turn eggs. :) If she's not hand turning, then it's a little weird...lol
I'm way behind. I was going to say she has an auto-turner. I don't, and have to hand turn all of my batches. So, I know exactly what you mean. But it's not the veins I'm worried about. It's the darker spot. I've had some like that and the veins start receding a few days later. I'm not saying that's going to happen. Just my experience when I have those dark tissue spots. Not sure if tissue is the right word, either.
Very interesting! I've never hand-turned. (but I couldn't help thinking of Blobby when I saw that pic)
Me too.
Thank you guys. I know your right. But I feel like I could have done something. But then again more likely not. I hope nothing else happens.
Ross, I'm so sorry!! Heartbreaking! Could it be related to the fowl pox?
So I am supposed to remove the turner tonight. I haven't seen movement this week. But I did notice this..
400
is this an internal pip? It looks like the shell has darkened... any thoughts?
I was going to ask if those are duck eggs but I saw they are. That happens with duck eggs! It's black staining on the shell. There is a whole thread about it.
Ok, so I think I got some fairly decent pics of the littles. It's so cute watching them go in and out from under mommy. They even started eating this morning and drinking.
Omg!! I love it! So beautiful!
I will try, BUT ITS SO HARD BEING PATIENT! And this is my second try. First attempt was 0 of 36. Maybe buy some eggs in February...
Just don't give up!! We'll all help you through it!! Pm me anytime!
Lost the best one I've ever had... the only one I couldn't afford to lose... black Araucana cockerel... keeled right over dust bathing...
Oh I'm so sorry!! :hugs
Well, I finally saw my rooster Louie do the deed. I heard a cackle from a hen, looked across the yard, and Louie had one of the silkies down, and it looked like he made the 8-second bell. I still haven't noticed any of the LO girls being receptive, but at least one of the boys is active now.
That's great!! I wish my guy would figure out what to do and stop just biting all the girls!!

What do y'all think of Mottled Javas? I know they're on the endangered list as critical and that makes them intriguing to me, lol. I found some on Craigslist, of course, for $30 for a dozen but she said she always gives extras, she said she normally gives everyone 14 to 16. I wonder if I should get some of those.

Different pen. No fowl pox in this pen. Speaking of pox they are seriously worse. Her whole right eye is almost swollen shut from it. And she has stopped laying. It seems the rooster has it also. His devil horns are covered. I feel so bad for them. I am giving them vitamins so hopefully it clears up soon.

Good to know about duck eggs. Keep an eye out for staining. But don't you think since it's lock down time there should be more of a mass and not so much clear fluid??

Purina flock raiser... but he didn't die that we know of... hoping he might survuve the night and make it back in morn...
He and his girl got startled when I was putting them up and they flew down the hill... she came back up but he didn't... searched for hiurs but no sign of him...

Flock raiser is a good choice!

Here in California we have a free necropsy service for small flocks. It is very helpful for helping us figure out how they died and if we need to do something.

It is through a Grant so you may have something in your State too. Here it is called California Animal Health and Safety.

I feed mine that from hatch to lay... got it recommended by a good source, and been happy with it ever since... is good for my chooks and Calls...
He was super healthy and gaining weight nicely... and it was very quick so think it was a hidden health defect...
