She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Don't let anyone make you feel like putting him in solitary is abuse... it's not... it isn't fun for him and it's not supposed to be... and it isn't abuse as long as he's not living in there indefinitely... and I am much more happier with the results from using solitary than trying to show a cockerel 'who's boss'... but this is also my personal views and experiences... others may feel differently and that's just fine... but you aren't abusing or neglecting him... just teaching a lesson...

As to the eBayer, I don't really ha e anything against them or their practices, per se... it's mostly my own personal preference... I really do not like what causes the Crested in ducks... and I will not knowingly accept eggs that could be Crested nor will I ever breed Crested... it's similar to my views on vaulted skulls, but I feel more strongly about Crested... as for having a website or FB, that doesn't bother me either... and if someone just wants Calls as pets, they'd probably be an easy source... but multiple listings at the same time says to me that they are breeding for sheer numbers and not so much for quality... I'd rather go for less at better quality than more at lesser... just personal choice... :)

Oh no, what he was doing to the young lady was abuse. Plus, I put food and water in the cage. I did put him in the coop for bed with them. It's pitch black in there and he will go in the cage in the morning. I'm not a good alpha at all, so this is good for me. Thank you! And yeah we are definitely talking about the same breeders. I agree!

My kids are 19 and 25 and I bet they had probably had something bad for them by 10 months.  :/

:gig :hugs especially if they're not the precious "first" baby!

:hugs  Hope he gets better quick and you can catch up on some sleep!

What did I do??? lol
She's a pain in the..butt!!!  lol She's doing good-so far.  I have no idea what or when I'm going to do about integration....I do know my chicken diapers are ready as soon as she/he gets big enough...lol  It has the Spitz comb coming in by the looks so I probably won't know until it crows or not....lol

Aww, pics if you can. :)

Thanks guys. I stopped and bought some fox traps anyway. Season opens next week, so we'll get them prepared this week.

Also found 2 lavender eggs, out in the coop under the straw, and one out in the run. :/

Have you ever scared an egg out of a chicken? I went to pick up one of the girls because she had something white all over her beak. No, I did not give them coke, but it looked like it lol. When I put her down, I noticed a soft egg at my feet. The other came running and busted it and took off with it before I could stomp it into the dirt. Ugh.

You went from no eggs to eggs dropping out of them! :lau

It's not so bad if you raise them right. The mood swings will make you crazy before the boys ever do!

x2!

Glad no one else has disappeared, but bummer the lost one is still gone.

I never realized that chickens can tell when our clocks change.
I went out yesterday evening just before dark to herd the girls out of their yard & into the run for the night. Normally, that's no big deal; they go right in. But last night, they somehow knew it was an hour early, even though there was even less daylight than when they usually go back to the run on their own. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to get 7 chickens to go where I wanted them; it was a lot like trying to push a rope or herd cats! Finally, I said "screw it" and came back to the house. Went back 5 minutes later, when it was all but dark enough to need a light, & they went right in.
Stupid birds!

When it gets dusky, mine go right to the coop and settle on the roosts. They are such good girls and boys...lol

Thank you everyone for the concern and warm wishes for me and my little man. He started with a regular cold on Friday night. Congestion, runny nose, cough and low fever over night. But he was still playing by himself and eating good. Then yesterday when I was nursing him for a nap, I could tell a fever was starting. Then his little heart looked and felt like it was beating out of his chest and he looked like he was having trouble breathing. So I put him in the car seat and went to our pediatric urgent care center. The nurse took his vitals and left the room. The dr came right in and said they were calling an ambulance to take him to the children's hospital in New York City. I stayed calm because this is my third boy, and I have a few hospital trips under my belt. Long story short, his fever spiked to 103 and caused the high heart rate and some tests and X-ray showed a viral respiratory infection in his lungs. Oh yeah, and a double ear infection. So he's not happy but he's holding his own. Started an antibiotic at the ER for a the ears and the respiratory virus will have to run its course. His coughing fits were so bad overnight, I basically slept while sitting on the toilet seat and holding him with the hot water running in the shower. I'm beyond tired. But glad it wasn't more serious! Now I'll try to catch up if I don't fall asleep reading! I have a few chicken behavior questions too.

This post choked me up, Ruby. You're a great mom and your kids are so lucky to have you. Thanks for the update. I've been worried. Best wishes for both of you. Try to get some rest when you can. I know it isn't easy.
