She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Big Guy is 3, Punkin is 2, the girls are less than 1, so they are already getting young ones
big_smile.png

He is milling around with the girls now. I'm going to try to lock Punkin in a crate later, and for the night, and see if Big Guy takes the reigns back ok. He seems happy to be back with the girls right now, with no young buck threatening him. They are both good looking roos, Big Guy just has a stronger hold on my heart

Turk!! Great job selling that calf!!! And for profit too, you rock!
That just might work. I had multiple roosters once, & one of them, the top bird, decided to roost in a tree outside the pen for two nights in a row. Next day he tried to rejoin the flock & the God-awfullest fight broke out, the likes of which I've never seen. #1 finally prevailed, & I had to put all the extra roosters in a pen by themselves til I could cull them.

Thanks!

Awe! Thank you! I missed him at feed up alot this AM, sure is quieter around here!

I just checked humidity, and I heard a peep!:ya

How much humidity is too much? I'm at about 77%.

If your not planning on meddling at all then it might be a little high only because once chicks start hatching it will probably shoot up to 90%. If you are planning on meddling then its fine. I was actually thankful that my humidity kept going sky high because it gave me a big fat excuse to open the incubator and take shells out and rearrange the un-hatched eggs. In doing so I found 2 wrong end pippers that were glued to the bottom of the incubator (from pipping wrong end and blood/fluid seeping out the pip). Both lived! Thankfully I was able to roll them over and put them on the clock. So I think periodically checking your eggs during humidity spikes is a good thing!!

Yay!!!!! :weee I woke up to 2 more hatchers and my CLB starting to zip. Still nothing on the 3 silkies and 2 of my own crosses.

:highfive:

Well Big Guy is ok this morning... But... Punkin has definitely established himself as the dominant roo. Two of the girls went in the building with me and hopped up on the shelf to see Big Guy. Punkin came in and jumped up there and attacked Big Guy. Ran him to the other side of the yard. Now Big Guy is working the perimeter, and every time a hen goes near him, Punkin runs out and chases him further away.

So I guess I'll take Big Guy home for recuperating and then decide which one lives. :(

Wow. Well I'm glad you figured out the issue. I know after giving it some thought, you'll make the right decision. :hugs

Awwee!!!!! So sad! :( :hugs. Well I too have sad news. So I candled the remaining 3 Silkie eggs and 2 crosses and no movement or cheeping. I water candled just to be safe and nothing. So I checked tapped into the air cells and they were all dead!!! :hit. I lost all the silkies!!!! One had internally pipped then died because it still had to absorb it's yolk. The rest were fully developed. :hit. Had all silkies hatched I would have had a blue, black, and a splash!!!! :hit that hurts even more!!!

On another note:

Last CLB hatched...it's another boy!!!
However my first male jeeps sleeping with his head tucked underneath like this.

I put a cockerel in a cage the other day, for the whole day because he was terrorizing my favorite pullet and he shaped up big time. He's left her alone since. I made sure to put the cage in front of everyone else so he knew he was being punished.

So sorry!! :hugs

Losing the Silkies is my fault, really... shouldn't have added them in with the Legbars... they really don't do well incubated together... :/

As for the chick, do3s he have full movement of his neck when awake? Is it kinked at all when he's running around doing chickie things? If not, then nothing to worry about... I have had chicks that like to lay flat on their backs to sleep at first, dang things look dead, lol...

If you're worried though, give him a straight drop of vitamins then a couple drops of water to wash it down...

I have him some poly vi sol and now he is doing better. The CLB was also a cockerel and his navel did not heal properly so I had to coat it with corn starch and now he is much better. Just really sleepy. Both the boys are in the brooder with the 4 crosses. The Subcutaneous edema has pretty much gone away. It's no longer full of fluid. It's now just a piece of saggy skin.;) hahah!! :lau but it's little legs are starting to splay out so I need to make him a splint. And one hatched out with a slight crook in the beak but not bad enough where it can't eat. So I think we will be good to go!! Sorry for the long story. :) thanks everyone for the kinds words....and to @Sally Sunshine for helping me via text with the bleeder. Hahaha!!! Ravyn not your fault.....really. they were fully formed just didn't hatch

Silkies need a higher humidty to do well than the Legbars... I don't have good luck incubating those together... I knew better, so yes, my fault... I'll get you more in Spring...

And 2 boys, nice! But now we gotta get you pullets, dangit! ;)

An update on my situation. Kept Punkin locked in the run all day and Big Guy seemed fine, the girls flocked around him, he fed and protected them as always. So we got Punkin out of the run, and locked him in a large dog crate in the garage for the night, and Big Guy went into the coop at dark. So... Punkin will be leaving.
