check & check

:jumpy awww. So cute. How long ago did he hatch? The first several hours they really don't need anything but warmth and rest. Then once they get On their feet good and start exploring, make sure you show them the water. I put marbles in the water and keep tapping the marbles with my finger nail until they try it and I see them tilt their head back and swallow.

I am not 100% sure. I had a Veteran Day Assembly this morning. Left about 730 and it was zipping away. Just got home about 11:10 and there they were. So I put it in my sweater and it was just chirping away. Put it in the brooder and its resting. Doesn't look fully dry yet but over half way. There is another chirping pip tho

How did you get involved? I'd really like the boys to join.

This is not right! So they were shipped express and then the tracking shows the never left CA? I had an issue with eggs being shipped from Jacksonville to NY. The person in Jacksonville accidentally scanned the box as "received" instead of "ship out" or something to that nature. So tracking showed that the packaged had already arrived before it ever left. No one knew where it was and there was no way to track it further because according to tracking it arrived at its destination, even though it hadn't. It did showed up a few days later. But I know how upset I was and they were eggs, not even live chicks. It's so frustrating when this stuff happens. Please keep updating us.

It's terrible what people have done to the breed. I know there's a website to try and educate people called "hate the deed not the breed" or something like that. I would also only buy a pit from a reputable breeder, now that I have kids. Once the kids are grown I would love to rescue a few that have been abused and work with them and give them a safe, loving home. Some people try to breed them to look and act aggressive. It's just sad. I know first hand that the one I had, would not have hurt a hair on my head. He was the sweetest boy ever and he was very protective, which was good because I was living in the city. I felt safe walking the streets at night with him on a leash.
I got involved through the girl I contacted looking for homeschool groups who also does one of the areas 4-H groups and happened to end up being the lead this year. The school may be able to provide info for your local 4-H or you may be able to Google 4-H for your area and find soe contact numbers.

Yes, it is awful. My sister's is a baby but hyperactive as he double hockey sticks. But even though my brother (whom she took the puppy from) swears they were pures, we both are positive they have boxer in there somewhere.

I dip my chick's beak in the water when I put them in the brooder (I use rocks in mine) but I really don't think it's neccessary...lol Once they are up and moving they are so curious I think they would find it just fine on their own. But, as a newbie I followed instructions and here we are.....lol

An update: chicks still not here. Haven't been able to contact USPS in any fashion. According to the tracking, they are still sitting in the origin facility in CA. I have written a blog post about the whole thing, not going to put it here because it's very long, but this has been the worst customer service experience of my life. Since the chicks haven't even left the origin facility, if they left today, they could reach me by the time they are three days old and there might a be chance for them. However the PO has closed every single way to possibly get in touch with them today, so I can't tell anyone to find them until tomorrow. At that point, it's probably too late.

Sorry you do not have them.

The problem is that the USPS tracking does not update in real time. After they go to Airborne for air shipping, USPS loses them until they show up at the destination. It is common to not see where they really are until the show up at your place.

Hoping that they make it!

My concern is that they were shipped by express - guaranteed to arrive yesterday. Not only did they not arrive, but the tracking hasn't updated once since the arrived to the first sort facility, as if they never left. The never made it to my local sort facility - one person did check that for me. She also gave them my number for them to call if they came in today so I could make arrangements to get them, and they haven't called, which leads my to believe they didn't make it to my local facility today, either. So they were supposed to arrive yesterday, the tracking information hasn't updated at all since two hours after they were first shipped, and they're just in the wind :(

Thanks

I just read your blog and that's exactly what happened to me with eggs earlier this week. The robot says it can't give any more info than you get online. Then I also tried not giving the tracking number, just like you did, and when it tried to transfer me to a human, the line just went dead. Such a crock.

Once when I was checking the status online, it asked if I'd like to do a survey, so I said SURE! and gave it my email address. They sent the survey to me, but I haven't had time to fill it out. I'm going to take all your troubles into account when I do take the survey too. They will wish they never asked for my opinion!

(in my case, they did arrive on the day they were supposed to... they were marked "hold for pickup" at the post office. The tracking showed "available for pickup" at the station before the final delivery location, so we thought they were holding them at the wrong place, hours away!.... They sat there for an entire day. But they did finally transfer to the ending location the next day and were picked up)

Thanks

I have had live chicks ship and hold for pickup via Priority Mail, and my local PO has called me on a Sunday or before hours to let me pick up as soon as the box arrives. Mail moves 24 x 7...here's hoping your chicks are not held up in some airport cargo warehouse!

I thought I read / heard they dont need to eat or drink for 24 hrs because they are still absorbing the yolk. Is that right?

They typically don't NEED it (if they have a nice plump belly) but if you introduce it right away they will explore and will know where to find it when they are ready to eat. If they hatch skinny they need it right away.

I get highly irritated being forced to 'converse' with a machine, then being told what to say & how to say it. When I start getting told to "push 1 for x, 2 for xx"...I push 0; if that don't get to a real, live human being I hang up & send them a 'nastygram', in which I tell them just what they can do with their automated phone system.
