She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Hey y'all, I have a ?, when I went to feed up this morning, all of my Welsummers but 1 chick was gone. There were feathers everywhere, no remains and whatever it was had dug in under the fence and apparently drug the chickens out of the run through the tunnel it had dug. My question is what would have taken 5 full grown Welsummers and a 2 month old cockrel? It's either a small coyote, dog or fox, it left 1 small paw print behind. And either before or after it got them, it tried to get 2 of my Silkies but couldn't get in. My dogs, my husband and I never heard or saw anything and our bedroom window was partially opened. We have a surveillance camera trained on the run but it has no sound and it doesn't record.
I'm betting fox, Megan. A family across the road let their 3 Jack Russells get loose over a year ago, while we were out-of-state, & they got 3 of my hens. If it was a dog that raided you, I'd think it would have to be a small one, like a Jack.. I'm sorry.

There's a guy that lives right up the hill from me and he's always running his dogs and they always end up in my yard before he rounds them all back up, they're little rabbit dogs, beagles. But even then it would have to be a pretty small beagle.

They can make it over a 4 foot privacy fence and take a large breed duck back out. Feathers from the first one and it came back the next day and left a wing on the other side of the fence.

After we saw a fox killed on the road nearby, it hasn't been seen. We put up a taller fence and moved anything it could climb or jump on to get in. Where there's one, there's bound to be more.

Sorry, Megan... :hugs

Now that it found a food source, it will be back... unfortunately, night predators have very keen sense of smell and know when you are sitting out before you can see them... your hubby will probably never see it... get that camera recording and set traps too, although ours avoided those like the plague... but it sure caught one of my Ohiki pullets today, lol...
Anyways, don't count out coon or possum... anyone that says a possum will not kill or drag off a full grown chicken hasn't dealt with the nasty ones... :/

Yeah, my husband is planning on sitting out there with a gun tonight. If it's a fox, will it be back this soon?
not likely more like a couple of days . it just had a feast . If he has any kind of hunters scent spread it around . also walk the circle around you whole set up house included it has a game trail somewhere . check all the water holes near by . get a line on where it's coming from. ears like a fox is no joke inside a blind is best .

If it had been a domestic/feral dog, bodies would be laying everywhere... they kill for the thrill of the hunt only...

Btw, once you get 1 predator, guarantee more will follow... start reinforcing everything...

We walked it a while back when 1 of my Nankin's was taken, we followed the trail of feathets as far as it went but all the game trails we found led to nowhere, just dead ends and an overlapping network of haphazard trails that led this way and that. We never found a den. We had a couple burrows that we blocked up with big chunks of cement, we blocked both entrances to the burrows, but they weren't anywhere near where the chicken had been taken. They didn't look like they had been used recently when we had found them either.
