She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Going a bit off topic.....

So Buster has really come around over the last week. He hasn't had any triggers/episodes since day 2. He has become pretty trustful and more and more affectionate. He enjoys being petted and doesn't usually flinch. He hasn't got to the giving kisses point yet, but he looks for attention and wants to be inside now rather than out. He loves his walks and especially his treats. He doesn't sleep upstairs with us and still won't or can't (haven't figured out which yet,) get on the couch or bed yet and generally stays downstairs as it gets pretty warm upstairs and he pants when he's up here.

He's not a barker or whiner, but tonight I heard him give out a yelp. A minute later another bark/yelp so of course I went down to investigate. Once I got downstairs I heard my father in his bedroom struggling for breath. I hurried to set him up with a neb treatment and calm him down. (He goes into a panick attack-understandably-when he can't breath.) I never heard a thing before Buster's alert. I don't know what would have happened w/o Buster alerting me, but I'm glad I didn't have to find out. Of course he got lots of loving and a treat. And I swear this dog smiles!

Awwwww!!!!! That's always a good thing. That means he is trusting you more and he feels part of the family.

My little find is passed out on my hubby's belly right now. We have decided that we are going to keep her. Her name is Polly and we are keeping that name just spelling it Pawley. Like the island in SC where some awesome pimento cheese comes from!!!! :lau :gig

I'm glad he is working out!!!

A parade? Lol

Well, I helped it. The veins all seemed drawn in and we r going on three days so I figured I better try. It seems okay, but at the bottom, which was the last bit I removed, it has this thing hanging out of its belly button. Should I clip it and free it? It seems to want free badly lol.

Eta: I have been holding it tightly and researching for thirty minutes or so BC I am scared it will pull it out. I have a towel in warm, sterile water, cooling down to wrap it up in if that would be better.

That is the normal membrane...but at a stage that we don't usually see as they are not supposed to hatch until the blood vessels have receded completely.

A safe resting place would help, but the risk of pulling out the navel is pretty high. You can snip the cord about 1/2" long and use cornstarch and pressure with a q-tip (press the cord against a paper towel with the q-tip to close the vessels) and then let it rest in a safe place until the chick is nearly dry.

Please help! I came home to another ducking this afternoon. This one isn't drying like the others

almost like it was dipped in glue. And its not able to close its eyes. Is there a soap I can use or just keep wetting it with water?

Warm water on a soft cloth, warm room with no breeze, and quickly back into the incubator. Don't worry about getting it all, just get what you can, especially around the face.

That's awesome. He will come around. Patience and love is all it takes. He's already contributing in a meaningful way.

You did a great job with this chick! It's so nerve wrecking doing assists! I had one like that and I clipped it. How's it doing now?
Ok, that's makes a lot of sense. The eggs are not fertile yet, and they didn't lay yesterday or today. But I will follow your exact instructions in spring and let you know the results!
I'm making a lot of good changes with the flock. Found a local breeder that's on the board for the American bantam association and she has online "classes" about breeding silkies to sop. I read through one today. I'm learning so much! Also getting more started birds for breeding. You will definitely get nice eggs in spring!!

Apparently, it looks like I have more work to do with my Silkies... :/

last night I had a the same thing helped the chick to hatch watch it lay there and shake it could not open its beak . it could not bend it's leg moved it and the one unhatched egg and one other chick into my old bower incubator it regains heat quicker than the GQF hatcher after I was sure it was warm . I took a salad bowl from Mcdonalds and filled it with hot tap water . I then put a heat lamp above the bowl and adjusted the water temperature to 100 degrees and washed the sticky off the chick . a chick that we were sure was dead started cheaping trying to walk thirty minutes later it was doing great . today it is eating and drinking . and still doing great. don't let the baby get cold . don't be afraid to try to save your hatchling.

glad to hear they are both working out.

Hey K, did you run a full batch in the GQF?
I'm just using the hatcher and only had nineteen eggs in it . only hatched nine . just got my parts to fix the incubators and still need to clean one . I'm full brooders are full growers are full . My hens went on strike . not getting many eggs at all . so the hundred and fifty egg hatch will have to wait till I grow and sell . for the first time since march everything is off . last one hatched today . I'm thinking I'm going to need a very large brooder. also thinking more grow outs . my sister called for thirty dozen eggs this weekend and I didn't have them Now it's time to get to work on two more twenty hen laying coops and lighting systems to get egg production back up . as I set here I don't know how many eggs I hatched this year .just know it is a lot . and thanks to Ravyn I now have some Lavender Ameraucanas oh crap three more hen houses two of those already in the works . I think the Hens want me to take a break. I know the house hens do . so I'll be good till I get some sold more built more eggs . I'm sounding greedy more more more .
.
