She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Some are too old, some are pullets, but plenty are at the right age. I am pretty sure I have some egg eaters.
I've put golf balls in the nest boxes, and I don't see any egg shells, but 2 months ago they were popping out 20-30 a day.

. Hopefully on Sunday-my day off, I can observe them.
I have an egg eater. Pain in the butt. She's on her way out next spring though. One of the low quality silkies that I took from my sister. I agreed to take them sight unseen. While they lay good sized eggs when they lay, one has a calcium deficiency and she's the one that eats them, one lays eggs with extra calcium deposits. I hate cleaning up after an egg eater especially in the nesting boxes.

Out of roughly 20 that were laying regularly before we started loosing daylight, I get 3-6 eggs now. Usually 3. Yesterday I got 6 and was all excited, sad considering I was getting that many or more a day just out of one coop....lol

If it's an egg that is lacking calcium, I don't consider that the bird is a confirmed egg eater. Usually, if the shells are normal, they won't eat them, unless there's a dietary or metabolic dificiency. (?sp) Either way, she's definitely on the cull list IMO. I have a gal who needs to be culled for the same reason, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. (bad me) Are you giving oyster shell in addition to their layer ration???

Yes I was. It didn't seem to help much. All three of the ones I took from my sister are going next spring if everything works out right. I want to wait till after winter and let them have the extra bodies in the coop for warmth since they are in the coop with only 9. I caught her trying to eat one of the eggs from the others that is normal one day. Had some good pecks in it.

35 turkeys undressed, chillin' and ready to go!

Conformation in a heritage turkey: while the overall size and amount of meat is a factor, more important is the conformation.

Sorry for the photo quality, but I had to rush processing as we are now expecting 5-8" of snow tomorrow and needed to beat the weather. Here is a "low grade" bronze dressed out. Note the prominent keel:

Here is another bird of the same weight with a "good" keel:

These were both destined for the table, the better birds are still in the coop. :)

And we figured out who lays the pretty olive eggs. She laid again today!
