She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I am sorely tempted to get turkeys, and all these pictures aren't helping! I'm in love with blue slates, but they seem hard to find. I also like royal palms. I want a breed that's not too big, and they'd just be pets and predator deterrents, so not for eating unless I got overrun. I just don't know what breed to go with. I hatched some sweetgrass/royal palm mix poults last spring but my flock of ravens broke into my brooder area when heavy winds damaged it and ate them along with all the chicks I had brooding :(

Slates are actually very easy to find, as are Royal Palms. Many hatcheries carry both, and for yard art, hatchery quality is fine. Craigslist usually has grown turkeys this time of year, it's really hard to find poults until summer and breeding stock is hard to find any time except late summer and fall.

I've had some nice Slates and Royal Palms in the past, the Slates have a lot of color variations due to crossbreeding but the best are a nice, even ashy blue gray with black flecks.

I guess I should have specified hard to find in my area :p I also don't want a bunch, and the smallest hatchery order I can find is ten. I'd like to hatch my own, but I haven't had much luck tracking down eggs.

Thanks! That's probably about an hour and a half from me, which isn't too bad.
