She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Doing good here. We're suppose to be getting 15-30 mph winds, gusts of 40 plus, and sideways rain. One may not freeze here, but drowning is an option.
I'm still waiting to see if my OE babies are boys or girls. They're really confusing. Both started their feathering like pullets, wings and tails first, but....

Neither one has a stand out redness to their comb or wattles and the size of the combs isn't that of a welsummer roo. Their combs look like moms.
Not that I am an expert at sexing, but they look like girls to me. I think I'd prefer drowning at this point...lol

When we moved from SoCal, we wanted a place with 4 seasons. Although the kids/grandkids are in Denver, we just didn't want that much winter. Really happy we are here in NM, although something in my SoCal blood still complains that I can't wear flip-flops 10 months out of the year.
LOL

How much are the brinsea brooder plates? I think the heater I looked at was like $60-$70, but I read that they last a long time.

I left her out tonight. She was in the middle of a pile of 20 silkies sleeping. So I figured I'd see how she does tonight and then maybe move her in tomorrow night. Tomorrow night is supposed to be the coldest. Thanks for asking. I would ask if you have any action yet, but I'm sure you would have posted! I heard they hatch like popcorn. Can't wait to see pics!!

3 or 4 pips! Those speckled eggs are a bit hard to tell. And they sit so low in the basket, its hard to get good flashlight angle on them! Lol

I actually found my brooder plate for $35 through Amazon, but sold by Wayfair. I've bought alot at Wayfair too. It was an unused customer return, that's why I got the good deal, but it was pristine and I trusted Wayfair. They do run around $90 I think regularly. But I love that thing!

Ok, mother nature has definitely made up for the lack of winter all in 12 hours. Not to mention  the negative temps. Got the 4 wheeler stuck plowing the driveway last night and couldn't get it out, so the driveway isn't cleared and I'm not motivated to get out there in -15 temps  to shovel it out and finish it.  Tomorrow is supposed to be up to zero----yay! (Dripping with sarcasm.) so maybe I will tackle it tomorrow. I have to go out every couple hours and break up the ice in the chickens water and I'm freezing just in the amount of time I'm out there. I really want to move to Texas!!!  One of my friends that live (a lot) farther out of town past me showed up at my door last night and ended up staying because it was so bad she couldn't see to drive and the road was covered. I really hate winter, and it was going so well....

So far the chickens are doing good though. The chick that I brought in last fall that was broodied and mama ticked me off did turn out to be a male. He just started crowing and he barks too. Like the dog- a yappy bark. I need to see if I can get him a home as soon as it starts warming up cause I have no intention of keeping him. Elvis is definitely the daddy and he's a pretty boy, but annoying. I'll have to get a pic and put up. No idea who his momma was.

After only getting a few hours sleep we've declared this rest day...lol So lounging around staying warm (in between getting chilled) is the goal for today. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

:hugs stay warm!

I've got a fire going, staying home by myself to watch Brinsea TV and clean house! Ugh.

I feel you, Amy! It's freezing here too. We're up to 15 degrees but under a wind advisory. The wind chill goes right to the bones! Going outside now to break up the ice.

It's a frigid 28 here this morning. Brrrrrrr :gig
Two pips in the 7 eggs in lockdown

:jumpy good news!
