She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

They just take longer to hatch! !
thanks. I guess, shipped eggs are shipped eggs, if they are chicken, turkey, or duck? still about 50/50 to make it to hatch?

Lockdown stats from last night:
Not good, but better than the last one.
14/27 total
10/11 from the splash pen
4/16 from the black. 4/16 makes me think one hen started submitting first. I've seen him with all of them in the last few weeks, and I will start collecting his eggs again today for the weekend set, so hopefully the extra 4 weeks gave him a little time to spread the

good luck, bud.

I seriously contemplating seeing if the wife is up for another round of hatching, and try to sell all of these......lol

The more you sell, the more she will be up for it. Mrs. Flock looked at me like I was crazy for saying we needed another incubator in December. When the waiting list got up to six weeks, she was all for it.
I'm going to remind her of that when I start dropping hints about the cabinet this December

I hope I get a few blacks out of this batch, but they are all sold. I'm setting a dozen from each pen Friday or Saturday, and if those hatch well I'm going to be keeping 15 or so for myself

I didn't re-set last night. Haven't heard back from the guy that was supposed to buy these quail, and bring me more eggs. He's a truck driver though, and I don't have the wife's number, so he may just be out of town.

I still think I'll set some silkie/cochin eggs Friday or Saturday, for myself, or to sell.

Do you have bantam cochins?

So when collecting eggs for hatching, do you have any tips or tricks? Do you store your eggs on a turner while gathering? How selective are you on size, egg shell quality, etc. Do you have your hens on supplemental vitamins prior to collecting?

I turn the cartons if I remember, but most of the time I forget. I like the bigger eggs, but I will set any as long as they aren't oblong. I haven't done supplements before laying, but I think I may start that this year. Maybe it will help offset some of the post hatch deaths
