Mine are nowhere near SOP, but they definitely got the broody gene :gig
It's fun, because the big ones accept chicks hatched in the pens. There is never any fighting or attacks. They can grow up right in the pen

My Silkies will take in any newcomers, no fighting... they just look over like "Dude... where ya been?" :gig
 
Apparently, I just have strange silkies. They never go broody and they are the first ones that will go after a strange chicken in their coop.


Mine have such huge crests and beards that they can't see past the juvie age... I don't think the broody's even know what their kids look like, much less anyone else... :lau

LOL Mine are like SCs. No beards and their crests aren't overly large. That's why I am looking foreward to trying with Ruby's eggs. I love her girls. I saw her partridge ones the other day and was surprised to find I really liked them. Hoping they are laying by the time we do this. If not then I'm buying some from her before the summer is up...lol

Still somewhat new to all this Incubating stuff, but I'm loving it so far.... wish I would've seen this post a month ago.... I have a Styrofoam incubator from TSC and first attempt was with 48 eggs... we lost 13 and the rest are starting to hhatch as I type

If you hatch 35 of 48 in an LG on your first hatch you could probably teach me about hatching
