She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Yeah, they are small! How are yours doing?
I put up a thermometer and it stays between 60-65. I will move them out in the next couple days depending on the storm. Is 45 degrees outside warm enough? Or with a broody it's always warm enough?

As long as there nest isn't getting ice and snow they are warm enough with a broody.

What did you get from Foley? I got a couple SLW and this is one of my first hatchlings.
We got a black laced red wyandotte cock bird. We have him in the pen with 4 of our best pullets, but I don't think ANY of them have lacing as nice as the pullet in this pic! Holy cow--er--chicken! She's gorgeous!

I have EE'S, an OE, BCM's, Buff Orps and Black Austrlorps. Roosters are both BCM's. So I've got potential OE chicks in the bators and BCM's.
I'd love to get a dozen from you..not sure if that's possible. If not, whatever you could send

I'm not sure if you're interested in any BCM or OE chicks. I can pay for the eggs too

I'd be happy to send you a dozen as soon as we can. The hens we have in our breeding pen are only giving us an egg or two a day and some days no eggs, so I would have to fill the order with some of our other stock--from the same bloodlines, just not the best of the bunch. Fine birds, though. Or, I could just send as many as I could collect in 7 days, whichever would be okay with me! Don't worry about paying for the eggs, maybe shipping/packaging. PM me when you get a chance and we'll work out the details.

So glad you are back!

Walnut! Good to see you, too. <3 I'm interested to see how your hatch goes(the FB/Ravyn hatch lol). Good luck!

GD and I planted some garlic bulbils, and bulbs in the garden. We planted some old crocus bulbs in the lawn. I think the soil is thawed enough that I could plant some peas, early greens and the like. But it's early yet. Most years, the soil is still frozen solid for an other 4 weeks, and many of my neighbors don't plant until end of may. I have aches and pains in shoulders, knees, hips, ankles, and feet. Toss the back out occasionally. Yep, I'm in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in.

Quote:
But what shape are you in exactly? Think I'm kind of Z-ish lately.

See, I've been wondering if we waited too late to plant the peas. It's so HOT here! The end of May would be out of the question. lol

Toooo cute!

We have a SLP baby!!!!
That's awesome! Congrats!

X2! Excellent work. I would have been a nervous wreck!
x3! Now you can add poultry podiatrist to your list of talents.

Okay, off to bed. See you 'round, peeps!

great to see you, Chooks!

I am hatching some EEs from my flock, a batch of Spitzes and more of my EEs, then Rav/FB all sorts of lovelies, then a batch of turkeys, then another batch of turkeys I haven't set yet. I'll be doing a full candle mid-week. I can't wait to see what's growing!

I'm still waiting for Frieda to go broody again (I broke her when I moved her to the getting-to-know-you pen in the coop--I'm keeping her there until she goes broody again! She's got 15 square feet all to herself, and wire-between flock interaction, so she's fine for the next month or two). Hopefully, she doesn't time things so that I have to worry about getting eggs the one week a year that I'm stuck in a fireworks booth for up to 16 hours a day :gig

One of my barred rocks has been broody for a good week now and I just keep taking the eggs. One day she had 12 under her! She can cover a lot, the little fatty! Anyway today all I did was walk in the coop and she started growling at me...lol It's too bad I wasn't a broody lover because it seems like with this group there's always someone that wants to be broody.

I started collecting my Spitzhauben's eggs today so that I can set them with the silkies. That will put the oldest egg around 10/11 days if the shipped don't get lost. I'm dating the eggs too so that I can see which ones hatch. I'm anticipating this hatch to be my lowest rate since that dreaded first hatch....lol But hopefully I'll still get a decent number. I'm going to calculate the shipped eggs seperately from the Spitz and hope that I have a better hen/roo ratio this go round with them.

If you get a good one, you oughta use her for your own chicks... seriously, my 1 Am broody mama is the best one ever... much prefer her over the Silkies...

Im about to begin testing a black cochin hen, have 3 cochin as setters from Before i got the bator, never seen em hatch but ima give her a
Few o my eggs, as well as the turkey still, and ima see what kinda mommas they are.

Sad note, i think my jenny an i set her eggs too young, (or the boys arent connecting :/ )doesnt look like any are developing :hit

@WalnutHill here are pictures of the 3 I hatched from the batch I got from you.

This one I am 100% sure is a cockrel. Our daughter named him Lawrence. He does not like ducks :/

This one I thought for sure was a pullet named Katie. But is showing signs of a cockrel. Will both crow and sing the egg song. Also caught this one sitting on duck eggs one day.

And this little one named Owl, but I call Chicken Little. I have fingers crossed is a pullet. Sweetest little one, very quiet & curious.

I love her poofy face!
