She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Ok, but today is still day 21. So I'm hoping for a few more pips!! Fingers crossed. I'm just waiting for one baby to dry and there are no more pips in that incubator so I will take them out. The other 2 just hatched a few hours ago and that incubator is filled with pips, so I'll leave that one be till tonight. Next time the baby naps I might have to go lurking on those threads...ah, to be young again. What's that saying about wasting youth on the young? Whatever it is, it sure is true!

Oh, just day 21? You still have a good shot

Hi everyone, Just an update on my hatch. I only got 1 chick from my hatch, so I put a feather duster in with her and got on the hunt for newly hatched chicks in my area. I managed to find 2 chicks at 2 weeks old. Went to pick them up yesterday only a short drive away, when I got back my little 1 had collapsed, I gave her some glucose and water from a syringe and crossed my fingers only for her to die 15 mins later I,m gutted

. Now to concentrate on the 2 new ones.
Losing chicks is very hard. I'm 42, hatch a ton, and it never really gets any easier. Like you said, concentrate on the new ones. Healthy chicks have a way of healing all wounds

I missed this post. So sorry for your loss! That must have been hard to watch! Thankfully you did get two new chicks. Watching them play may take your mind off it. :hugs

Speaking of being in a help forum...  After my stress yesterday about incubator temperatures, I ran across a "scientific lab" type of incubator.  Its for growing cultures and such.  The one that I found is an awesome deal on a very expensive machine, had been used once in a school project.  I tried searching for folks who had tried something similar on BYC but didn't have much luck.
Opinions anyone?  (I have already verified that temperature would not be a problem.  The thing's range is like 35-145F)

I see these on my local Craigslist all the time and I was wondering if they would work. But the ones I have seen have NO windows.

That just means you are right for once

HAHAHA!!

Just to be clear, that was tongue in cheek. I'm not mad, and not trying to belittle you. I'm just being me

I had a sensative moment, don't make me slap you all day, you might grow to like it a little too much. It'd be worse if you didn't harrass me, as long as it isn't about typing and spelling....lol I KNOW MY SPELLING AND TYPING SUCKS!! If my siggy would let me keep more stuff I'd put my disclaimer back in...lol

I've never even heard of any of these forums! I guess once I found "incubating and hatching", I was home. Lol.

All of my babies are still in the incubators!! I'm to worried about hurting the other pips!! But I don't feel comfortable leaving a baby longer then 24 hours. So by 3pm, my little fluffies will meet the brooder. Also, like SC said, I don't want to slow down the hatch either. I've got 4 babies, 4 pips, and 4 eggs doing nothing! There's still hope for the unpipped eggs, right?
Plenty of hope. Still early yet. It took mine what I say..41 hours from first hatcher to last....

Go try and read those other threads, I dare you

If you are over the age of 17 it's a little...

You are at the point that I would be considering taking chicks out. If the other pips hatch, that is when I would move them, and my last few eggs usually pip and hatch on day 22-23, but they look a little more distressed by the time they make it out. That's another big difference between myself and Amy. She would candle and test the remaining eggs to see if the chicks were still alive. I toss everything after day 23. Neither way is right or wrong. it's whatever you are comfortable doing. Amy would prefer to know she gave the chicks every chance she could, I would rather not take the chance of having problemed chicks that had to be culled later
True story

I guess everyone left now that we are not talking chickens LoL!!!!

Do chicks rest during zip? I have one that is about 65% of the way zipped. Made it more then halfway around the egg. But stopped and I don't see it moving anymore, I can't actually see the chick, though. Is that normal?

It's normal. If you can see it's beak moving at all, it's fine. If it's 65%, it's resting up for that big final push

As long as it's not more than a couple minutes. If they stop and don't show any effort past 5 minutes, I'm not happy. If you aren't playing the chick music.....now is the time...lol

It's been more then 5 mins. There are 3 other chicks in there peeping like crazy, so I haven't been playing the music. I'm gonna give it 5 more mins....then what should I do?
