Because they are all on the same diet. A hen who lays weak or no shell eggs has a problem with calcium metabolism or her shell glands, and should not be part of a breeding flock. Also, every time an egg breaks in the nest, it makes a nasty job of washing eggs that otherwise may not even need to be washed.LoL!!!!! Tell why you want to cull the weak shell hens? My RIR is like that. They are very fragile shells even with extra oyster shells to eat.
You did a nice job with those rescue birds. Tell me again where you got them, and how long you've had them? How many? Age?So the chicks that I rescued, are out of quarantine!!!! They look all wet because I just gave them a bath. They were filthy from their quarantine pen I had to something.
Has anyone ever had a rooster nesting????? Zax certainly was today.
BTW, out my way, in the middle of corn country is a field, beside a nice barn. It's really a pituresque scene. However, the first time I drove down that stretch of road, I almost had an accident. In the middle of the field, sits a very human looking scare crow. He's sitting in a minimalistic living room scene, complete with TV, floor lamp, and his seat is a toilet.

My rooster does that all the time. He's quite the little home maker!
Regarding the toilet. I truly think that you've missed the mark by turning it into a dust bowl. You should plumb water to the tank, and it would be a self cleaning waterer. A flush a day would give them a nice clean water bowl!
It's amazing how the Internet has changed the world. I thought my grandfather watching the automobile industry explode and the invention of television would be the last generation to see massive change. Now I canOr even better, the beginning of the forum that we all know and love from October 1, 2000:

And that was only 15 years ago.
15 years before that, it was REALLY primitive.

Well...the title went away in 2007 when we got bought by Verizon and they stopped me talking to the press, but by 2009-2010 the role was completely moot. Between the corporatizing of social media, and management capitulating to employee demands that their smart phones and tablets be "dual use" (home and business), nobody wanted explanations as to why things needed to be secure, or why security companies would lie to make sales. It was a relief to leave that world...and become a chain-smoking ornery old man out in the boonies...![]()
