She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I have used Torx on deck projects. Not sure I would use it on a coop. I need a table saw.

Torx are more of a square in the top of the screw. I have a fit about them when I need to make a quick adjustment and I don't have a torx head handy, but I have 5 philips screwdrivers and 25 philips drill bits.

The square heads are the best. It's easier to drive them in w/o having to hold the screw in place. I switched to using them over phillips, but I have heads for everything in every size.

I haven't tried the squares. They look good, but I already had a Torx set so I went with those. Either are much better than Phillips

Yes, the Torx heads are the same as star heads. Ten times better than Phillips, and most of them come with the bit for the drill when you buy the screws

I'll have to try them or the squares sometime just to see how they compare. I'm not sure why DH is stuck on the Phillips :shrug

I stand corrected. The Torx are the star shaped bits and the square is different. I have used the square ones and like them for decks. Still wouldn't use it on a coop. :)

I would have :smack ed anyone else that said it, but we're running low on guys so I let it go. I use them on the 2x4 framing, use pneumatic nails on the siding, and metal X wood screws on the roof. Before I started building coops I never had any need for a table saw. Now I don't know how I lived without it

Just to be clear, I don't want my name used. Seriously. That would be my screen name if I wanted to use it.

I wont! I promise. I am just messing with you.

Joining in if its ok! Northern here, born and raised. Moved to NC after graduating college to teach. Loved living there but never became a tea drinking, grits eating girl. Met my husband, also a northerner while in NC as he was serving in the military. Married and moved to Alaska a few years later. Loved Alaska and we should have tried to stay. Lived there three years before being moved to Virginia. Spent a few years in Virginia and then my husband retired. Moved back north and we bought our house which sits on about 2 acres. Finally got chickens (8) and just ordered another 8 plus a meal maker from Meyer. Would love to incubate some in the next year. First I need to learn to use the saw...not sure I can talk my husband into another coop....

Hello!

Oh my it sure does take some keeping up with this thread!!
Just dropping by to say the little polish has done it!! She has hatched all 4 eggs off and is doing a great job with them. Had a couple of instances where she has trodden on them but that's to be expected as she can't see anyway. As this is my first broody hen it's a pleasure to watch things done naturally. How she keeps them in check and has shown them how to eat and drink. It really is a wonder to behold!!

What a good mommy. I still can't get over how the polish looks. It's a feather duster with legs.

Yeah, you need to let your sibs know what you need. You shouldn't bear all the burden alone. What about your brother (seems most people have a sib like that) helping out financially?
Welcome, Ohio. You've been around the block! If this old biddy can build a coop, green house, and tractors, I'm sure you can do it. But, you gotta have power tools to even the playing field between male brawn and female not so brawny! Chop saw is a must, followed by pneumatic nailer, skill saw, and a good drill. Jig saw if cutting anything funky or not straight.

I fully believe in a compound miter saw and cordless drill. I personally love the GRK brand screw with a star head. I tried the TORX but I found it split the wood more than the GRK. I would build a shrine to those screws. They are fantastic.
