She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I do think it's funny that we unconsciously assign a voice and vocal pattern to printed words. I even "hear" the speech cadence while reading...SC and BYC, I slow my reading down just a touch when perusing your words. I rush headlong through Amy's, even though her use of her middle name is more southern than northern.

My profession consists of writing a large number of technical documents, so my writing and speech tend to lack a lot of social grace. On the motorcycle and car forums I am members of, a lot of members don't have a clue that I am a woman, as I don't really write like one most of the time. I actually had a guy on a Firebird forum get PO'd at me because he thought I was misrepresenting myself. Sorry, I'm just me!
I do the same thing, and I write much more eloquently than I talk. I am intelligent, but you would never know it to talk to me face to face.

That's why I enjoy forums. My sense of humor doesn't always go over so well down here (imagine that

), so I get to stretch my legs a little here.

Honey I'm a picky eater no matter what the region...lol And the south is a big part of me. I just had the "unfortune" of being born in NY...lol I grew up listening to southern twang and speech so it's not FAKING it as you put it, I just repress it. Speaking it naturally got me thrown in a remedial class! Aunt Bea association has nothing to do with Maine, more to do with personality and a discussion we had on a thread one night. I DON'T KNOW WHY!

I don't think a southern drawl or speech denotes anyone as less intellegent. I do feel one should put an effort forth in proper speech in public if they want to be seen as educated. (I ain't got no.... kills me! It's: I don't have any!!!) I'm awful at grammar control. My spelling stinks, my articulation is clear..lol. Everytime I hear someone say 'me and Stan went and'... I want to say, 'It's Stan and I'! I don't do it, unless it's my son..lol, but I do have that urge...lol But I also take into consideration where I am and natural speech patterns of the person's orgins when I am forming an impression of someone. I would hate to be judged as a snob because I am from New York and very conciencious of my speech, though down south, it's a good possility that I would be seen that way, if I didn't relax my patterns.

To clarify, my grammar is correct, even annoyingly so. The accent, not so much...

To illustrate my point, I'm going to use "it's" in your post above. That is one of my pet peeve words. You used it correctly. In the contraction form, it's "it's". The possessive is "its". The dog ran after its ball. Unless you are from here. Then it's "The dawg ran after its ball"

This whole thread is funny... That's why I like it!

Ok, so play along. What do you sound like? I've only been out your way once, to visit my mother when she lived in Phoenix for a couple of years. I dont know what NM folks sound like. I picture Indians on reservations... Lol (sorry

Oh, then you must love when folks post about their "Maran's"!

My mom lived in Phoenix. No one is actually from AZ, it's just a bunch of Californians that like to pretend they are cowboys. All I know about NM I learned from watching Breaking Bad, so I wouldn't eat those blue eggs
