I grew up watching LA Law, but California is not "a big part of me"

" Speaking it naturally got me thrown in a remedial class!"

There's a different association. Not comparable at all.
It did. When I started school, because I had the southern mixed in with the northen, (I talked like my father in certain aspects) they threw my butt in speech class. I was there until I learned to pronounciate correctly. Thank God I am usually a quick learner. They did not believe I was born and raised in NY because my speech pattern was so different.

To clarify, my grammar is correct, even annoyingly so. The accent, not so much...
And the accent does not lower the perception of the IQ, it's the grammar. (OK, I'm only saying this once and I'll deny it if ever asked, but secretely, I'm just like every other girl and drool over just about any sort of accent. We're all jealous because our speech pattern is just plain boring. I mean, even NYC ers have an accent, us upstaters....blah....)

To illustrate my point, I'm going to use "it's" in your post above. That is one of my pet peeve words. You used it correctly. In the contraction form, it's "it's". The possessive is "its". The dog ran after its ball. Unless you are from here. Then it's "The dawg ran after its ball"
i just wish people would learn which there, their, they're they need when writing...lol

I have a long list of those that drive me nuts...

I used to have a Miniature Pinscher (he lived to be 14 years old, RIP) I used to DESPISE when someone said Mini Doberman or called it a Doberman of any sort. Especially people trying to buy or sell one! If they don't know that the MinPin is a breed of its own - bred long before the Doberman, they shouldn't have one!!

I have to be totally honest and say I have a problem using marans in the singular. I actually went and googled when I first joined the board to see if marans was proper with the s. It just doesn't sound right...lol

I always consider them min pinns, and acknowledge they are their own breed, but have always mentally thought of them as a miniture dobey in my head. Does that make me bad??? lol

That doesn't surprise me. You think it was your speech that got you into remedial. It was your horrendous spelling.
