That's VERY interesting as I noticed the narrow hips as well. Color and comb I couldn't comment on as I'm not a fancier. But I noticed two things in the couple of photos: he is standing with his shanks slightly angled (feet not under hocks) in the side view, and he's a little cow hocked in the front view.

I breed birds for their performance (either meat or egg), and I wouldn't want narrow hips in a laying hen. When you hatch out some of his sons, look to reducing faults. Mark the darkest eggs, then those chicks at hatch. By 8 weeks you have a good idea of the overall growth rate and conformation, though full color won't be present the comb will be reasonably well developed. Tag a few best specimens from the earliest maturing, hatched from darkest egg birds and keep them all until they are fryer size, then cull those that are clearly culls. Develop a couple of the best until they are fully mature and breed those back to the hens, especially those that lay the darkest eggs.

The mother's genes may help correct the color
That's exactly what I plan on doing. It's too late in the season to try another roo, and my pullets just started laying, so I'm hoping to hatch out 30 or so by the end of summer, grow them out over the winter, then go from there

Yay!! You've got a baby!! How's blob doing? And what about the wrong end pipper?

Going to have to read up later. Just wanted to update that the first polish has hatched! So 2 cochin and 1 polish. The one that pipped on the wrong side got bowled all the way across the bator. I turned the hole up and its still alive and working. Not making much progress yet. Also have another polish pipped.
Nothing from Blobby yet. But they are just getting started real good now.
Had not even cleaned out my brooder and everything yet, so I just did all that. Getting it set up for transfers tonite.

Back to chick tv. Update (and catch up later)

Yes, thats always a good thing and helps when selling. But I also had the same thought that once you invite them in they are like bad relatives that keep coming back and complicating things. If you're not on their list the chances of them imposing their authority over your flock is low. I see it as a big pro/con argument that can go back and forth with good arguements for both.

Did that hurt?? No??? Let me try again.....

Well considering it took them almost 6 months to get here and actually test my chickens when I called in January, I feel pretty safe that I wont be messed with. LoL!!!!! Plus, they are in Atlanta and I am in Savannah, that's around 4 hours away for them to come check up on me. LoL!!

Love your little cuties!!! I am glad they are hatching for you!

I am collecting my eggs to start again with a mix of sorts. I will have 12 or 13 eggs going in today depends on what the girls give me. It will be Silver laced Polish, SLP/EE, and SLP/Barred Rock. We shall see what happens! I hope it works out well. My first was okay and the next two just sucked! However I am bound and determined to make this work well!

6 months. Good thing you weren't concerned about your birds having something. Wow.

Good luck! Are you selling many Polish? I'm having a harder time selling this last batch than any batch this year

It's so hard to find quality BCM around here. I drove 2 hours to buy mine straight run after seeing the pictures of the eggs, and the eggs at the breeder's were gorgeous. At the time, that's all I knew about BCM, that they laid the chocolate eggs. As soon as my chicks started showing color, I couldn't wait to post pics and get opinions. That was a rude awakening

One of them had yellow feet, and one of the first responses was "If they were mine, I would eat them and start over"
Tough love for sure. I will get the same i'm sure but I'm looking for honest feedback so...

Just know before you go that they are brutally honest, but some of the most knowledgeable people on the forum

Shields up captain.

I used to run a mailing list that tracked bugs in Windows NT...hence NTBugTraq. The "q" at the end came from the original Internet security list, Bugtraq. Think "traq" as in "FAQ"...
I figured it was IT related, but I work at a SAS company so I'm familiar with it.

So I just used a temperature reading gun on my incubator. I got 88F, no matter when I pointed from the outside. I opened it, and pointed at the middle of an egg, and got between 103F and 103.5F. So I've turned the temperature down 2.5F and will check again (aiming for 100.5F)
Wow! Outside would not matter much, but 103 is too high for the egg shell and would cause a great deal of stress if the chicks made it, especially if they are in lockdown that hot. That could be the culprit this whole time.
