She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Gave my babies a frozen watermelon which they loved! LoL!!!! FInally got my temps stable. (for now) I hope it stays that way.  Keep stable for 2.5 more weeks!!!!! LoL!!!!!! I have to figure out what to do about the duck eggs. I might just manually turn them in my hatcher. So I can keep the chicken eggs in the LG.  So my hubby says that we might just get a brinsea and use that for incubating and the LG for hatching. I told him that it was pricey!  But he says if it means a higher hatch rate then its worth it. So I need to sell some chicks or something to make some money to get one. I am still going to stay purple!!!! LoL!!!!!! Because I am a meddler. Lol!!
You're going to incubate in the finest machine known to chickendom, then trust them to an LG to finish the job? You need to drop the redneck and go full Asian on this one :gig

Hi all :frow

Hatch well underway now :yesss:

Have got 9 hatched out and number 10 just zipping. Not sure on pips but can see at least 5. They are knocking things all over and confusing me :idunno

May have to move some to brooder before bed can see 2 eggs that have got stuck in empty shells :rant

lol If I could spare it I would stay up, but hard to concentrate on the phone with people with European accents lol Some are hard to understand with full sleep :p

I am sure the incubation process is the problem not the hatching process. So yeah! I am going to trust the LG to finish the job. if I doesn't work then I won't use it again. but I need to save up first before I can even think about gettin one. right now I am spending more than I'm making.

:gig That's me too I'm not breaking even yet but I sure am trying. You won't be disappointed, good luck with the saving :highfive:

Hi guys just checked emails and read about Colson's little Ted it's was so sad .after all he went through with him . not even going to try to read tonight .I picked up enough from email to reply to Amy. I tried rice and popcorn and a silica dry pack from pool chemical bucket . rice and popcorn did nothing .The silica pack lowered the humidity about 2% In about thirty min. but It was old and I had saved it from last year to try it this year. It worked a little. best bet is to get the Incubator close to a dehumidifier or AC unit. depending on the incubator and the size of the vents Its hard to say how close you would need to be to either one. humidity here has been running from 50% to 68% on average I locked down 18 last night the sponges and pans are in but no water yet. They were in the bator when I had the heat spike .15 look fine but that doesn't mean they are. I'll know tomorrow or Saturday . If I get live chicks you get pictures

Good luck!

So all the duck eggs still look alive and well. The oldest dues out to hatch tomorrow is thumping his shell, I feel it when I candle lol. The second dues to hatch is now in it's "lockdown" phase as well. Have high hope for them all :)

Good luck!

Sorry busy night last night.
It's the LG with the fan in it, I'm not sure about the model number. I have checked my thermometers/ hygrometers for accuracy but have not monitored air cells. We are not a high elevation. Temps from my last hatch ran 99-100 though they do bounce as high as 101 occasionally. They were a little higher the hatch before because I didn't know my thermometer was off.

I've hatched OE from my own flock, CCL, and BLRW this year.

Did I miss anything?

My first hatch was, not this one. I opened everything that didn't hatch this time, even though I didn't know exactly what to look for. 5 of them quit about day 19 which is when the first chick hatched.
No digital display or thermostat? Heating element that runs around the top lid? Your temps are about what mine stay. The nice thing with checking air cells is you can pinpoint what eggs might be trouble (loosing more moisture due to porousity/shell quality.) Another big thing I have found with mine is even though it has the fan, I still have cooler/warmer spots in the bator. I try to rotate my eggs, especially if certain ones look less/more developed.

Sorry, I didn't read this before I made my reply about the splayed legs. I don't have any experience with this. I wish crazychickenlady was around because she knows a lot about that. But she's been AWOL for awhile. I had mostly buff silkies hatch this time. One white hatched. I can definitely see the difference with the buff. They are a warm peach color. I was googling to see what buff polish look like and I came across this pic. I had to share because this chicken is so awesome!! Is this considered a buff polish frizzle??

Love it!
Haha.. I was wondering what happened to Crazy too. I've googled images trying to figure out the color they will be too. There are soooo many colors! And these new ones of mine seem to change shades every time I look at them. They looked white, then they look yellowish, then somewhat peach-ish, I guess. I'm still thinking buff.

And that pic... That's Phyllis Diller! lol It is an interesting looking bird! I'm not sure I can imagine it running around my yard though!
Definetly Phyllis!! lol

I just love the weird looking ones!

ooo ooo ooo the mutt is starting to pip, it's dimpled up, not a proper hole yet but a good upward dimple. Right on schedule is this little one!
Yay!! Good luck!

Either that, or there was a short in the heated waterer

The chickens don't know it, but that is programmed into their DNA. That's how they get something torn down small enough to eat. Have you ever seen a grown flock catch a mouse?
Not something on my list of "things to see" lol

Forgot to ask yesterday about my eggtopsy, the chick had obviously quit about day 19 or a little earlier but it had a very bulbous head, is that normal development for day 18/19? When I touched it the eyes bulged. Also the yolk sac was very small compared to photos I've seen of other people's eggtopsies, the belly was very dark and looked as though the organs where coming out the yolk/belly button area. Don't really know what I expected to see but could it of been bacteria? I dint clean the eggs at all but some did have a few smears of poop or whatever on them. I didn't really worry about it much at the time because I thought they would either hatch or not. Now I want to be able to improve my hatches or at least stop chicks dying so late into the brood.
I understand that sometime these this just happen but any advice would be great.
The one egg that I had serious doubts about because of dirt and being left out the nest for a while was the 1st to pip.
I don't know about the bulbous head, but according to the development chart on the average, chicks start to absorb the yolk at day 19, so it's probably why it looked smaller. He was actually doing things when he should.

Sorry, been busy at work and just peeked back in. Yes, hold it like a lawn dart, legs are the handle. But don't swing and release!

I find it very enjoyable to watch
Me too.

It's easier on my nerves to sleep while they hatch.

Sleep? During hatch???

Congrats!!! Love them!!

Well, my 15 are now in their new coop and I even have my "special needs" roo out there. Hoping that he can stay out there at least during the good weather. I was sitting in the coop watching them and I was scrutizing the Spitzhauben, (I had aimed to keep 4 spitz girls and 2 boys and I am thinking now I ended up with 2 girls and 4 boys
sad.png
so it looks like I might be shipping 3 out,) anyhow I wasn't paying attention to my ee roo, the pretty gray one who was dancing beside me...apparently he was watching my eye as I was watching his friends and he nailed me right in the eyeball!! And daggone it hurts!!! I'm usually very watchful when they are around my face, but I wasn't paying attention and now I am paying for it.
Anyhow they look real happy in there. Tomorrow I plan on getting my run up. Now I just have the littles and almost have my house back! 12 weeks inside is way too long, so glad to have them out!

Well I tried. I think "I" did it ok, but nothing really seemed to happen. Like doing inverted chin-ups hanging upside down from your ankles? She pulled up, no problem. I wasn't real sure how close her shanks should be together. She doesn't weigh anything! Well I did weigh her - 22.3 grams! Big one huh? Another weighs 23.6 grams, and the biggest, most active one weighs 31.4 grams.

I felt all around both leg bones on both sides and they feel the same, I can't tell where the problem is. I massaged some and it doesn't seem to bother her. She does seem to be using it as a stabilizer now, while she still stands on one foot and hops mostly on the one foot. I put another band aid on for now, may try it again later. I let her rest between, but tried it like 5 times.
