She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I have been using it for 2 years in the granular form., never had a problem. Why did you hate it? Zeolite is fairly inert from what I have read.

Thanks for the tip on the gypsum though, I will look for it and give it a try if I can find it.

While SweetPDZ bought me time in the infamous floods of 2003 that led up to the lawsuit to keep our birds, it did zero-zip-zilch for the compost, for the yards, and didn't do much other than slightly mask odor.

Pelletized gypsum is magic in a bag. If you have clay or hardpan soil, spread some on and water it in, come back in the morning with a shovel. Put it on your potatoes, too. It aerates the soil so that water drains more easily. Also good on dog spots to help combat the ammonia.

The birds pick it up and eat it, they don't gorge on it, they take what they need and then leave the rest just as they do with grit. It makes a big difference, and it's not harmful.

Menards, Home Depot, and most feed stores carry it in the lawn and garden section.

I've been using PDZ too, but will look into the gypsum. Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info! We've used gypsum as a soil amendment before in CA, just never thought of it to use on a poop board in the coop. Next week I will pick some up and give it a try.

I like how the PDZ dries up the droppings and makes them odorless, and doesn't seem to affect the compost except for adding some grit, which doesn't hurt. Mixing it with sand stretches it out and lowers the price. I've never used it to clean up a damp area after a flood though, or really for anything but a droppings board and the coop floor. (And never used it as a soil amendment! (LOL)) Up until now I've only had 4 chickens, so I didn't go through very much.

Now that I have more chickens, the gypsum sounds like it will work great!

This is my little eye pecker: And @sideWing These are the two I was talking about. The first one is a better pic, shows coloring better of the one you commented on, the second one is the one with similiar coloring only darker.
I like them a lot. I'm realizing how much I like the looks of AMs. I hope my barred EEs work out.
Coop looks great Amy. I wish I had a dirt floor because I would like to do deep litter inside. It's so dry here I have to water down the run to keep down the dust and help the stuff decompose. Since the coop has a wood floor - watering it down wouldn't work so I use a layer of PDZ & sand and scoop every so often. SC & SideWing & other BCM owners, how do you like my pullet?
I'm on my cell and didn't see them. Hard to find on my phone. I'm nothing but a very very novice. Can you post the pic again?
I will have to defer to side wing, I'm not qualified :gig She looks very nice to me, not too light in the hackles
HaHa! Ya right! I started at post 850 on that forum and learned a lot. And realized a lot of those folks are learning too.

So I am sad this morning. My sweet blue cochin which I swore was a pullet crowed this morning....we more like squeaked. LoL!!!!! He was trying to copy Zax and Gump as they crowed which made me sad. The one I know for sure is Rooster has not crowed at all and they are the same age 10 weeks old. Both hatched on 04/11. Time to post some roosters and pullets on craigslist to make room for more. It breaks my heart. I was soooo looking forward to Blue being a hen.
