She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm glad to hear you are ok, and thank goodness you turned the right way. Sympathy to everyone in its path though...20 years ago I was lucky enough to get to work from home, and home was a feeble apartment...so I picked up and moved to a place I thought would have no natural disasters...so far so good! I can understand you gathering your nerves on the side of the road, I couldn't stand anything like that.

Tornados are rare where I live, lots of mountains. So how do you find a place with no natural disasters? Lol

The bad news is the liquor store was closed because of no power! Lol But luckily I still had enough left to calm my nerves!

HAHAHA!!!! Im glad you found something. I would have been freaking out also and needed more than just a little something.

Random question.

What is the best way to process a chicken? I want to know what way is the most humane. I mean I feel like slitting the throat a bit much. As a kid my dad used to shoot them in the head. So that is what I did. But I also don't want blood splatter everywhere. SO I am torn.

Well, I have lived in some harsh places, and I used to be a researcher, so suffice it to say I took my best guess...;-]

Lolz, I still see that here in my safe haven, I'm fine, but the darn stores have no power...huh??

I have not done one myself yet, a long time ago I tagged this article, which read awesome, so I hope it helps you. She processes them with 1 small knife and a pot of warm water...no shooting involved. Here, if I want to sell anything to the public, I have to take my live birds to a Provincially Licensed Processor. We have ridiculously idiotic laws called "Supply Management", so I have to take my birds to a processer so the .gov knows how many I have processed. I am allowed 300 in a year, only, or I have to buy quota (at a ridiculous price). They don't really care what the public buys, as long as its very few birds other than what the chicken processors sell.

I am actually going to try to start an editorial campaign in our local papers to force food processors (e.g. anyone who makes more than 300 meat birds, or has more than 100 layers) to stop being allowed to call themselves farms. We have dumb commercials on TV advertising local eggs, when in fact we have no egg manufacturers near us...ergo, we have no store that sells eggs that are local...so how do they get away with this? I'm local, but legally I'm not allowed to sell where that commercial says is local eggs...go figure.

Ok, off my horse.

take the chickens head hold it tight in your hand wring it's neck like your crank starting an old car and crack it like a whip. the head should stay in your hand and the body will go flapping across the yard .by the time you catch it all the blood will be gone. you should know that I can't do this but my Momma could and did it all the time. I just chop off the head and hang it upside down to bleed it out.

That's what I did my 1st 3 hatches in, a 1588 with automatic egg turner. +1 hatch slightly above 50%, #2 was terrible, but it was my fault...#3 is going on now, with a hatch in a Brinsea Octo 40 ADV EX 10 days later...as a comparison. Amy loves Styro, I'm trying to do this comparison as a testimony to Amy and SC's different views...we shall see.

Keep us posted! Good luck. ;)

I'll have to catch up later, but I just got home from being gone for the weekend and my poor little cripple chick is worse. Leg laying straight out behind her, she tries to crawl on her belly some, but its just pitiful. I'm so torn because I feel like putting her down would be the most humane thing to do at this point, but I also hate to give up on her. I'm a mess....

We had a tornado touch down about 10 miles from my camp.. And I drove almost into it. I was within a mile and a half of it!

Guess I better get to working on a sling chair....

I'm sorry about your chick. :hugs Good luck with the sling chair.

So sorry to hear. Do you have a splint on it?
