She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Finally! Stuck in a fireworks booth with a phone whose battery needs to be kept up for the credit card reader (and actual phone calls--being in charge of the 2 booths here in town means my phone rings more than once a day LOL) makes for some backlog ;-) Good thing everyone else has been busy, too.

Anyway, I just wanted to leave a link to something I wrote for a general knowledge site--it just went up today. http://h2g2.com/edited_entry/A87846547

Nicely written!

I love the look on the hens face in the last pic

That is Angela. She is a character. She was the top hen in her old flock and tried to fight me when I first got her. I had to put her in her place, then Zax had to put her in her place!!! LoL!!! She loves to have her chin scratched just between the wattles and her wattles rubbed. She's a hoot! I love her. She is the one that lays me my thin shelled eggs. But I rescued her so I am keeping her as a layer and a pet.

FWIW, regarding the Korean links in the "recent discussions" at the bottom...despite being listed as only 1 minute old, the thread that caused the link had already been removed by BYC. Its a spamming technique common to discussion sites, unfortunately. The "recent discussions" feature fills automatically before whatever filter BYC is using to eliminate spams...which is an efficient way to update it, but leaves it open to this technique. It may well have pointed to a page which might try to exploit you, but more likely it was pointing to a site that gets paid to deliver ads...a far more common form of spamming. I checked the site mentioned, and it was attempting to sell a variety of things. Do not attempt such research on your own...;-]

Just got done reading all 603 pages. I can't believe it. Just tagging along learning all I can before I even attempt to hatch anything.

It amazes me that people read the whole thing. Welcome to the thread. Just dive in with any questions you have. I think I'm going to go back and edit my first post to let people know that just jumping in is fine

Welcome!! I am impressed you got through all 603 pages...could you clean my kitchen?

I'm obviously selling my pullets too low.
I have to play around with chick prices depending on what time of year it is, but pullets of any breed sell for $15 all year, or 6 or more for $12 each

It's been said it before, but my favorite thing on this thread is how everything can be going fifty different directions, conversations all over the place, but if someone has a "real" question/problem /issue, this place has some of the most knowledgeable folks around! Somebody here usually has an answer and I love that! I barely read many other threads now. Can't keep up if I do lol!

I'm the same way, I spend most of my BYC time on this thread. I love how we all come together, too. As soon as a real question is posted, the shenanigans stop. We have a wide variety of experienced hatchers, a lot of experienced chicken keepers, a lot of new chicken keepers, and Walnut and Lazy don't post as much, but are just founts of information. This thread started as kind of a playground for Amy and me, but it has really grown into something huge. You guys don't need us any more

Just took a few new pics of the babies, thought I'd share. I have a pug dog, so luckily I love the "so-ugly-its-cute" look

The little polish love to have their picture taken!

The prettiest one is the little black cochin between the two uglies lol

hello...

And little cripple baby still makes it over to the water and food...

She's feathering slower, but I think might be frizzled too.

And this is prissy frizzle...

BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA... Welcome to the world of ugly teenagers

I've heard smell based snake repellants don't work. But no experience with it myself, just research. Good luck!

Believe me, I don't have much faith in it. It was a quick-fix emergency measure until I can make the coop snake proof. That's the only sure fire way to solve the problem
we talk to much I gave up Sunday trying to catch up not going to happen go back to when Amy started the thread One of my first post said this one was going to pass them all. and I bet it does.

There are some monster threads on BYC, but if this one sticks around for a few years it will get there. I've seen a few threads that have more pages than we have posts. How you been? Haven't seen you as much lately
Hahaha!

You're going to be in trouble for that one!!
I really hope not, it wasn't meant with any malice. In comedy, that's called a "call back". Reference something from earlier to add punch to the current joke. I thought she would enjoy dropping the bomb

You see that a lot on forums. Usually they are just giving luck or prayers. Such nice people

Lawdy it is humid. Went for a walk to the grocery store at 7am and am still soaked with sweat ! Egg 8 has made progress and should be hatching soon, still no pip from egg 6 and upside down egg I'm considering just chucking since no sign of life.

I do!!!! Let me post some for you!!! He is such a sweet boy. He can be annoying because his crow is high pitched!! LoL!!!

He is very handsome! I love the coloring. So what if he's a little feminine with his high-pitched crowing and his liking of nesting... LoL!!

Ok, here are the pics of the new Ameraucanas. After doing a little research yesterday, I am very happy with the purchase. They are the offspring of birds purchased directly from Paul Smith. I had never heard of him before, so I googgled. He is a huge breeder from Texas who is also on the board of directors of the Ameraucana Breeders Club. I had no idea. The woman I bought them from didn't mention that in the ad, but she told me when I went to pick them up. She sent me an email Paul had sent her telling her how to identify which birds came from which of his pens. These are the most direct from the breeder birds I have ever bought, only 1 generation removed. I think I accidentally scored a great deal

Can you bend that leg at all? How much does she complain, when you do get it flexed? Still can't palpate a tendon? Do a careful palpation for the tendon. If it's slipped, it's slipped big time, maybe even ruptured. If you can find it, try to slide it into place, after a warm soak. If not, Here's my suggestion, and I'm not authorized to give advice, but... this is what I might try before culling: First palpate her hips. Feel for the hip joints on both sides. If you have some one hold her so you can work with both hands, that will make it easier for you to do a comparison. If hips seem symmetrical, and there is good movement in the affected hip (though it may be stiff from being in an extended position for so long. the question is, can you get forward flexion in the hip?) Now, if the hip seems ok, look at the knee. If you can flex that knee, and she will allow you to hold it in a flexed position, you could splint it in a flexed position, held up close to her body with a figure 8 going around her trunk, then around her lower leg between knee and ankle. Be sure it doesn't constrict to cut off circulation. I'd leave it on for a day, remove for some range of motion (very gentle and limited), and replace it. Try for a week, and keep assessing to see if it's helping. I wonder if you could use a cut sock, or something similar with a hole cut for the other leg to hold that leg in place?

SC, you did score a good deal. Especially sweet that you were able to get rid of birds which weren't profitable for you, and get a nice flock of birds which should be VERY profitable for you, without laying out any cash.
