Wow, that is beautiful! And I love the pink. And the stone floor... how do they like that? Mine "was" nice green grass, but they have almost obliterated it in a few short months! Stone would be awesome in my book!

I'm saving right now for $80 worth of laying chicks. I got all the money I needed from selling eggs and chickens. (That's why I sold my brahmas). It does indeed make one appreciate things when one is having to pay for them! I bought my own iPod and chickens and I act like a broody hen over themThe young man that got them (13 years old) bought them with money he had saved from selling his own eggs, and is planning on breeding them to show. I sold them to him cheap, because I was proud for him to have them, and I replaced them with a fantastic group of BBS Ameraucanas, so it worked out for both of us
That is so nice to give the lad a chance. I like young people who save up for things, I think they appreciate the things they buy much more that way. I hope it all works out well for him and you get on better with the BBS Ameraucanas. I've always made my son save and pay for all the extra things he wants. He appreciates money too which I think is a good thing although he does go a little far. He's 13 and I was winding him up about its time he got a girlfriend and his answer was they cost too much money!!![]()
Pic won't load will post it in a bit
doesn't surprise me you're confused as egg 6 should have been due the 28th and didn't pip till the 30th whereas egg 8 was due the 29th and pipped the 29th. Will give 6 another day before helping it. It's still steady moving its beak so hopefully it progressesSorry, I must have gotten 6 and 8 mixed up. I thought 6 pipped a couple of days ago.
It's just the narcissism. I was staring at my reflection in the screen so long that I finally saw the platformI love that you're so observant. That's something you grow up learning in NY. Always know who/what is around you at all times.
My mom used to live in Phoenix, where it was regularly 110+ degrees. People back here would say "Yeah, but it's a dry heat". I say stick your head in the oven, that's a dry heat, too.We are between 100 to 104 this week. All week. A lot of panting going on with the girls. They are due to start laying in two weeks. I hope this doesn't effect them negatively.
I think caponizing is illegal in Canada. You might check. I'm not saying not to do it because I still would, but it's illegal in the UK I believe and I wonder about Canada.
That's a great thing to learn and do at a young age. I was very impressed by the young man that came about my chickens. I'm sure you have a lot of pride in knowing that you are doing it on your ownI'm saving right now for $80 worth of laying chicks. I got all the money I needed from selling eggs and chickens. I was 12 when I got my first chicks to call my own (the brahmas, actually), and they certainly taught me responsibility.![]()

I make ice blocks and I freeze veggies in the ice blocks. We have an excess of take out containers from the grocery store deli that make great ice blocks. The chickens seem to like them. I've only done a couple so far cause like I said, most of our spring/summer has been mid 70's and rain so far. Only had a few truely nice days. I think we got your weather.... Usually by now I'm dying of heat....lolWe have got into the 90's here in England!! That's right we have these temps right now and I have to say it's horridMy birds are too hot and the chicks in the shed are even hot without the lamp, the door is open too. Don't know what else to do for them they have shade, ice water and lots of cold veggies out of the fridge but they are still panting in the shade. We are so not used to this type of weather over here!! I've got burnt and my arms are killing me just feels like there is no air.![]()
Any tips to help would be very much appreciated![]()
Thanks!Hi Amy, hope you have a fabulous time away on your weekend. You sure do deserve it with all you do for your family. Nice that you have your sister able to take care of your Dad and chickens. Must make you feel better while your away that they are all being looked after.
Hope you have a great time and fingers crossed your van gets you there ok![]()
I'm not worried about that. I have no doubt you'll be waiting...lolThat sounds like a good getaway. Just try and forget about everything for a few days. I will still be here toyou when you get back.![]()
I'm going to go ahead and warn WV that she may have to bear the brunt of my wrath while you are gone

Not much "letting loose" with my 7 year old son in tow....lol but I do hope to enjoy it...lolThat is called Cat Karma.. And yea, cats are jerks.
YAY! You'll have to share the process. After my birds start laying I have an electric cooler that demands to be modified.
I think that's a great start in a homemade incubator. I've heard of so many people that swear off hatching after all their eggs quit in their homemade.
What a great idea. Keep us posted!
Go out and enjoy. I was out for a girls weekend a few days ago. I loved it so much. Just let go and let loose!
I'll have my laptop too...lol Just hopefully I won't be bored enough to be on it much, at least during the day...lolHot and humid here too. I'm glad I don't have any eggs in the incubator right now. Hard to tell what would be happening with them!
Ha! My hubby is hvac certified. Sorry for your luck!Definitely impossible to live without central air here. We've been working on our "camp" cabin for several years, and figured we wouldn't need central air in it. We have a wood stove for heat. But its been so hot already this year, he installed the air last weekend. Ahhhhh, between the a/c and the rain tinkling on the metal roof, sleeping doesn't get any better!![]()
Good for you. I'll be out of town later next week myself. Much needed too!! So good luck to us both.
Haha.... I'll take it while she's gone, then she'll come back and I'll be gone. Then we can gang up on you when we I get back! (of course I'll be around via mobile some, so don't let your guard down!)

And another missing quote (what's up with those?)
@RubyNala97 -- love the new avatar pic! You are beautiful and your kids are just adorable!!
Oh no, you and Amy gone at the same time? Gonna be a long week for rossfam![]()
I worked at an orchard/country store for a couple years. Apple/berry picking can be fun and it's a great family day. My sis is the store manager there now and they've added even more, but we had grill days and plenty of family days plus a petting farm. No, it was actually taken on a hay ride/tractor at the apple orchids when we first moved back to NY and the kids had never been apple picking before, since they were both born in FL. I'll have to look on the big computer, I can't make it out on the phone!I love that you're so observant. That's something you grow up learning in NY. I was reading about keeping chickens during the summer just the other day. And I read they can get overheated easy and won't seek water. So you should keep a bucket of cool water near the pen and if you see that a chicken is getting extremely over heated, you dunk them up to their neck in the bucket and it brings their body temp back down. And I think it was Amy that said she makes ice blocks with veggies frozen in them for the chickens. I like that idea.![]()
Thanks!Thats crazy!![]()
Good to know something works. I'm in the high desert so I'm sure I won't need it, but it's good to know there is something that does.
I'm excited about your new incubator. I have been looking on the free classifieds for a broken fridge to replace Frankenbator.

Have a great time and be safe!
How old will these roos be when they get the "knock on the head" and what do you do with them. I know Grant Brererton (breeder and poultry writer) would give some roos to someone that raised Ferrets. Not a bad idea. I'm raising mine for the stew pot if I don't sell them.

Just don't drive down by the riverjust hoping my van doesn't strand me anywhere between here and there.

Don't tell me you haven't seen that either....
