She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Nice bikes walnut. The incubator is holding steady at 100.4 for now, but the humidity dropped down to 23% so when the sun goes down I will candle for air cells and take the carton out( unless there are detached ones) if that does not bring the humidity up to 28 then I'll add some water.

This is just my curiousity getting to me, and I've been wondering for days, so I'm just going to ask. That is a very Japanese sounding username, and saying Nippon instead of Japan makes it even more so. I know your location says Japan, but I still can't figure it out. Your English is flawless, none of the dialect errors that will show up from someone with English as a second language, so I'm stumped. Is Hiyoku a Japanese translation of a European name, are you originally from somewhere else and moved to Japan, or are you Japanese and just have flawless English grammar?
You aren't required to answer any of this, it's none of my business, but I'm curious...

This both flatters me and amuses me simultaneously as you didn't even guess the right answer! For me, it is a fairly obvious answer but I suppose that is because of who I hang around with.

ひよこ= hiyoko= chick

in (Japanese for in is に=ni but it would not be obvious because Nippon ends with an 'n' so I went with English, I could have gone with Yamamoto but that is a mouthful)

日本=にっぽん=Nippon= Japan

Just a play on words, so I am literally a chick in Japan but since this is a chicken forum, using 'chick' seemed very punny.

To answer your question, I am an American expat living in Japan. Right now I am teaching at a preschool that teaches English and spend the afternoon teaching private English classes. My Japanese is awful. My boss tells me I sound like a retard...

For the preschoolers we are hatching chicks which is why I am here (in this thread) at the moment. I am however, hoping for a low hatch rate because they will live on my apartment's porch... err... I CAN fit 6 ok, but I'd rather just have two or three, max four for noise issues...

You can do it! I had to help my gold laced cochin because it was zipping the egg length wise and got stuck. I have faith if you research enough and follow step by step you will do great.
Agree! You will do fine Ruby! If anyone has done their research, it is you and you have the instinct!
That's bananas! "The monkeys on Morgan Island have now swelled to a population over 4,000, and while no testing is done on the island, several hundred are captured each year and transported to labs around the United States for testing for diseases and, in more recent years, bioterrorism. The island was privately-owned and officially a secret until it was purchased by the state in 2002, and is now supported by the National Institutes of Health with a much more open profile. The rhesus monkeys are native to India, but seem to have adapted well to the Deep South and are quite protective of their small territory. Visitors are strictly prohibited from the island, which is ringed with NO TRESPASSING signs, and those who venture near by boat often see the monkeys swarming the beaches to protect their shore. "
Someone shared pics of the monkeys on another thread I visit. Or maybe they were Googled pics, but still very cool and interesting huh
Hey, WV! How's Tiny Tim doin'?
Tiny Tim was someone else's, I think. But we finally put my little cripple down last Friday. All she could do was drag around on her belly, had stopped eating and drinking much, it was horrible. I feel like I tried everything, so it felt like the right thing to do.

We've planned a 700 mile trip on our baby dual sports this weekend, and had to finish breaking them in. So we packed up cooler, bedding, clothes bag, tent...most of the stuff we will be taking camping...and took a 75 mile test drive over to Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River. Beautiful scenery and nice twisty two lanes along the lake and river. Have you ever heard of mayflies? They are about an inch and a half long, 3" wingspan, juicy and soft, and come out at night They die and fall to the ground and are greasy and slick. They smell like dead seaweed. They swarm by the millions and each lives only one night in a breeding frenzy. We drove through a five mile swarm of them. They came up under my chin inside my face mask, obliterated my headlight, and completely covered my shield. We had to pull into a gas station where I took the helmets in the bathroom to wash the shields. My leather is covered with them, DH's mesh jacket has them embedded in the mesh. The vents on the helmets were clogged with them. We live about 25 miles from the shore so we get one or two at our house. I forgot how bad they were by the water. The GQF is getting cleaner and I think I found where the broken wire is supposed to go. I'll fix that tomorrow and order the heating element. Once I have it electrically safe and cleaned out, I'll test it and see what needs replacement (someone unscrewed the timer motor from the bracket so it may be bad). Once it works, I'll set the thermostats and give it a run test. Even though it has an electronic thermostat I'll probably upgrade it to the Sportsman type, and add a clear door and a deeper hatching tray. This hatching tray looks good for quail and that's about it. And I'll probably need to order more extra large egg trays. By the time I'm done with all that it won't be a cheap incubator any longer, but it should work well.
Sounds like an interesting bike trip! Anything in the helmet is not fun! That sounds unreal!

Very neat!

I was going to look it up this morning, but you beat me to it. it's a very odd sight to be driving a boat down the salt water river in South Carolina, and sea monkeys on an island.
Rossfam, I will see if I can find it on the map. It's not really that far from Savannah, and just off the ICW

Quality over quantity:smack Too much cute for one poast!
Quality is all that matters! Glad to see I have someone else on my side. And thank you. I am so in love. My overall hatch rate is 70%. I am so happy with that.

I can't imagine driving though that. I have seen nature specials on it. Terrible.

I was hoping there would be a cool explanation, and there was

To be totally fair, you should give me at least 33% credit. One of my 3 guesses was were you born somewhere else and moved to Japan. Please tell me you were born in the south. We already have a redneck Asian, I would love to have a redneck in Asia

You have now moved to #3 on my alltime favorite username list

Kinda, ok 33%. I am about as red neck as a polar bear. Sorry. I was born in MA and consider myself from CT as I spent the most time there when you sort out where I was during my life.

I spent some very miserable years in GA between 3rd and 8th grade, my parents still live there. So yea, sorry. I am not, nor will I ever consider myself a Southerner. Irony of ironies though, I intend to have my farm in Northern GA for various reasons...

Very chuffed I have made your favorite username list. Any time you have a question for me, feel free to ask, the worse that can happen is I turn you down *shrug* :rolleyes:

Popped in to check on you people. My other threads aren't exactly buzzing right now.

Just curious, SC, who's your redneck Asian?

And who are the other two in your favorite username list?
