She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I thought the Octagon 20 was big enough.  But I always get too many eggs.  for this hatch I bought 12 eggs from Jean, but she shipped 19.  I also bought 10 from another person, she sent me 12  I'm thinking I've got 22 eggs maybe a few extras. No I'm real lucky I receive 31 in total.  Okay I candle  and 1 is cracked.  Down to 30 .  Still too many.  New dilemma which ones do I eliminate.  I can't decide, so I remove the dividers and set all of them, but 3 are sitting up higher.  Turner is off for because they're shipped. If it wasn't the top 3 would have been rolling all over.  I candle day 7 and eliminate 3.  2 more are iffy and 9 chocolate can't be candled.  Now they fit tightly on 1 level and I'm concerned that 27 mostly large eggs are really too crowded for hatching.  What I should have done was not set the 3 small eggs, but I know 2 of them are developing, so I won't remove them now.  I'm sure I will remove some next time I candle - so I should stop worrying.

I would not worry. And if they are all developin then see if some local or a friend has a bator you can borrow or throw your eggs in at hatch time. I'm sure it will be fine though.

Agree with Ross... I wouldn't worry. Chances are you may lose a few more along the way.... good luck and keep us posted!

Enough pips to make 20????

Unless you run it all year round!
No way we will make 20. 15 looking doubtful.12 are in the brooder, one still in the incubator, and a couple of pips. I may have gotten ahead of myself counting yesterday, it look like one just popped out this morning. I will usually get one or two on day 22, leave it running until tomorrow, then shut everything down

If i have an Incubator of my own it needs to hold at least 32 full size chock eggs - anything much less and its not work running.
Especially if i get my project set up - there will be a 90 something percent cull rate after the 3rd gen for at least 3 more generations so to get 1 good hen i would need to set at least 28 eggs

I totally shut down at the end of day 23. No candling. In my experience any chicks that hatch later than that have issues. This is one of the biggest differences between Amy and myself. Go Blue

Um....Ya...whoever said size doesn't matter- lied!!!!!  :gig

Isn't that the truth!

Checked on my duck eggs and they are doing some moving. Day 23 2morrow, should I continue turning?

I think someone already replied but with larger fowl, I think it's better to stop turning around day 22, it gives them time to get in position. So yes, IMO I would stop turning.

This is what happened to me! Gave me an excuse to buy another incubator! ;)
