She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

14 total hatched, but two culls. I will give the gory details when I get to the big computer. No more pips in the remaining eggs, so I don't expect anything. Will totally shut down tonight. This is one of my worst hatches in a while. I will do the eggtopsies tonight. I don't know if it is something I did, the eggs were too small, or if it is just harder to hatch the BCM

Don't beat yourself up... BCM's are hard... ask Alaskan if you want to hear about some horrific BCM hatches... going total dry incubating with them does seem to help, btw... think the extra coating restricts water evaporation from the eggs... just theories going around on that...

It's funny you mention Alaskan. I just asked him about it on the black copper thread

not really 14 from fresh laid pullet eggs that alone was a risk they look good all in all it went well Amy would have had both cups full and then some to get any closer to those eggs . and only Yorkshire has had a 100% from set that I can remember this season. are was there someone else .any way 97 today is what they say. and I'm out there. so far behind can't keep up just put in my comments and run

Could have been worse, and you got babies!!, so I still consider it successful!

Alaskan is a good friend of mine...

Commiserated through many hatches together... BCM's are Alaskan's nemesis of hatches...
Don't get me wrong. I'm very excited to have my first batch of homegrown BCM. The 12 that made it are very healthy, and the chunkiest little chicks I have ever seen, so overall I am very happy to be off the ground with my breeding program. The goal was 30-40 to grow out over the winter, so that just means it will be 3 sets instead of 2

that's not bad ! you went straight from chicken to bator with no waiting for egg size to increase two things your forgetting Amy's chickens are all hybrids and their will to survive will surpass a pure breeds any time. study after study has proven this over the years. Plus Amy's will is stronger than the chicken's and to get any closer to those eggs she would have to have both cups full and then some. WV thanks

I'm up in Traverse City right now. The storm damage is impressive.

I am hatching my last set of turkeys right now. If you figure 8 weeks to grow adult plumage, and back a month from that for incubation, and counting November as the onset of dangerously cold weather, early July would have been the ideal time for that late set.

However...

If you are willing to provide supplemental heat through November and into December, you can set now. Eggs less than 10 days old are best. Older eggs often have difficulty hatching.

Walnut!!!
Welcome home

Too easy. I had one mistake from WV, so I had to dual with her all day. If I did that with you, it would just look like I was hitting the center word over and over again

You did great, especially for pullet BCM's... it was just your comment about the 2 culls that made me think of AK, lol...

I've only hatched 2 crosses from my BCM's so far... have been debating selling off the whole flock... Alaskan told me to keep them... eh... still thinking, lol...
