She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I didn't catch up reading yet but I had to tell everyone, the manager at the post office called! He has my eggs!

I'm going to pick them up now. I don't have much hope after they've been in transit for 5 days!! But we'll see.

Has it been 5 days? I still have high hopes!

This is a busy thread - I'm gone for a day and there's almost a hundred posts. And I stayed up reading them. Ravyn you're a Momma pea hen - cute. sorry about your lost eggs. SF like your silkie pics - reminds me of bag of cotton balls scattered all over the place. And what does DIS mean?
Humidity question - with a quarter cup of water in 1 channel the Brinsea was at 55% humidity. Everyone said it was too high, so I let it drop. Now it is dry and the humidity reads 42%. The vent is open all the way. So I guess that is my room's humidity level. The only way to change it would be to move it and that might not work - it could even be worse, and I'm not buying a dehumidifier. So I guess I'm running dry until lockdown. Seems odd not to have any water in it.

Not using any water is the easiest! haha But seriously, I can't remember if anyone asked you about the accuracy of your hygrometer, so I thought I would ask. Did you test it? If not, you should. The numbers don't surprise me though, if you are in PA. I wouldn't move the bator either.

And if that is accurate, 42% is my typical incubation humidity in the Brinsea. I have had my best results of that, except for the black coppers. just because there is no water in the wells doesn't technically mean that it is dry. I would love to be able to maintain 42% with no water. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't drop.

Been wanting to do this for a while, so for mine and hubby's 10th anniversary, we went to the tattoo parlor!!
My right ankle... I love it!!!

@caesargirl
Nice. What did he get? Happy anniversary!

Pigeon has four yellow toes on each yellow foot, by one toe is missing the tip. Is that just a deformity? Nothing serious? Also, it has no trace of a comb at all, so I'm really hoping it's a girl!
Not a problem with the toes and foot color. But, I'd not use Pigeon for a breeder if you plan to breed and sell Silkies. Barn yard mix... breeder discretion.

Yep. Especially with digital. You can line up 10 digital thermometers and not have 2 tell you the same temp. Most liquid thermometers are pretty much the same as each other
I've looked at liquid thermometers in the hardware store, and seen the same brand vary by up to 5*.

Great news, the seller of the yucky eggs asked ebay to intervene. She sent a whole lot of nasty grams and basically wanted me to defraud the usps. I certainly wasnt about to do that, the box wasnt damaged and there were no cracked eggs.
I ignored her, not bothering to reply to all the emails. I figured that I had stated my case and would leave it at that. Ebay found the dispute in my favor and have issued me a refund. This is the first time i have ever had to open a dispute.
Even better news, our eggs are now in mobile, AL. @RavynFallen
Chicapee: I'm very glad you stood your ground, took the high road, and did not even respond to the seller's rant. Good Job!

this is one of the two new chicks. My last one like this in the past died. Anything I can do for it or is it a cull?
I'd give it at least 24 hours. You might put it in a padded cup to keep the leg positioned under it. Check for a slipped tendon. I've had chicks look like that, and with just a bit of TLC, can't tell them apart from the others 24 hours later. Good luck.

Congrats on the project birds Walnut!
Ditto.

My broody is on day # 18 today. I expect she'll hear some noises, and feel some rocking and rolling soon. If she comes off for a walk-a-bout today, I'll bring them in to candle. Hoping she'll be a good Mama. She's a bit low on the pecking order, but I notice that every time she comes off the nest, she's JUST a little more aggressive than the last time.

A Malamute from about 1/4 mile away killed 26 of my chickens, two of my turkeys, and mortally wounded my Porter's Narragansett tom just before Thanksgiving two years ago. I had to finish the tom and one of the blue slate hens.

I just got home and was about to go into the assisted hatch how-to but I am glad I scanned further...

If you don't have enough eggs for them to sit on, they will probably try to hatch each other...

What a relief!

I came home to this:

and two more pipped in the GQF.

so sorry hope you were able to do something about the dog . great on the hatches GQF working well looks like Glad your home
