She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Oh man. Just candled the eggs. If I get 50% it will be nothing short of miraculous. Air cells were horrible. Strange shapes, some this way, that way, rolling down the whole side of the egg. I've never received eggs with air cells like this. I noticed that the eggs that were the oldest had the most a/c damage because they were bigger. I'm really disappointed. It's not the senders fault. It's USPS! Next time I do shipped eggs, I will pay for overnight shipping no matter what. It's worth it to pay more to get more chicks then paying a lot anyway or only getting a few, if any. I decided to add some water and raise humidity to 40% because I don't want the air cells growing to fast until they stabilize. What do you guys think about that?
y Ogye and Hmong Eggs are the same...when I candled them on day one I could see any air cell movements but now they are on day 6 I can see them. I had to add a wet sponge as well because their air cells are the size of day 14 to 18....the eggs are very porous. So I feel my hydrometer is right when it say 10 %.
I got 3 turkey poults to hatch with awful air cells. One of them was right down the side. The shipped egg article that I use says to go dry in order to stabilize the air cells. I waited 7 days to start turning on these ones. 3 out of 6 hatched. But go with your gut.
If my air cells are moving alot I normally hatch in a Carton....I think I am going to have to do that with these guys. I candled last night for fun and it looks like I have 4 clears, 4 quitters and 7 growing. I will check again on day 10.
Houston, we have pipped-off
Yay!!!!! Good luck!!

Cute!!!! I want to try a couple of baby ducks.
:old OOOOOHHHHH! That would be me. I'm not old with aches and pains to proove it. I'm vintage, to proove that I've been processed in proper conditions. I prefer military time also, but don't use it much, cause it tends to confuse the masses (in my world)! Yep, bright and shiny objects. I like to put marks and squggles on the walls of the brooder, especially ones up high so they have to jump to get them. Beads on a string. Chickie calisthenics. Day 19 for my vintage incubator.
I like that idea. I am going to have to try that!!!
I never asked you what "D to the N" meant
I will pm you......what do you think it means?
Aw stinker. I wish I was incubating along with you folks. :hit Good luck, and happy hatching, everyone!

I love baby ducks. And second what Walmut said. Black feet are so cute!
Set mine at 2200. SC is running dry :gig
Set mine at 2230....what I mess I have on my hands! :(
I'm guessing the D is for dumb, but can't figure out the N. I can usually figure that stuff out. How do you say things like D to the N, but not know what IKR means? Guess it's the gang speech :gig
I still haven't figure out what IKR stands for! Should I ask my kids?

Brinsea = expensive hard plastic. Sunbeam Xpress Heat pad = much more reasonably priced, soft plush fleecy, multi-purpose.

I provide supplemental light. Otherwise, they shut down in October, and don't start back up until the end of February. We see weeks at a time when it doesn't get above 0*F. And lots of grey overcast days... but those are the warm ones. The sunny days tend to be the coldest in the dead of winter. I'm in Central Maine, near Bangor.
I love the idea of the mommy pad, but I'm all about plug and play

The clear days are the coldest here, too. The clouds are like a blanket holding the heat in. Nature's mommy pad

Thanks.....!!!
Hey now....I lived a very sheltered life...my first smart phone was only a year ago. Jeez....cut me some slack.

Ha ha ha!!!!! Funny funny funny!!! Keep laughing.....

for WV. Now let's forget this ever happened.
Has it been 3 weeks already?

I usually have to ask my kids. It took forever to figure out what dh and dw meant. I thing it is darling husband or wife. I could be way off base though.

You're right. Now if you really want to be confused, ask sjturner what it means

don't fret I just the other day found out what a BBS Ameraucana was and every time someone abbreviates anything I have to think and I don't like to think. It stresses my brain. and Ill tell you something else I know a lot of big words and can't spell a single one of them. I can butcher a word so bad that spell check blows up trying to figure it out

At least your punctuation is spot on

you know there is a reason we use a twelve hour clock cause we an't got 24 fingers and toes and still don't know what to do with the other eight after we figure out what time it is

Yep. I can only count to 23 that way...
took me five minutes to add that up I was busy watching Ravyns little cheer leaders wondering how they do that can't make them be out of sync I tried.

Have you noticed that if they are in multiple posts on one page, every single one on the page will be sync

What were you hatching again?

I really hope your air cells settle down. I hate that you have so many odds stacked against you before you even get started. It will just make the parade that much sweeter

WV answered in a post for me already. You are spending too much time with me. :lau

@scflock my 9 marans that hatched are really chunky and robust too right after hatching. They are getting really big now, they will be 3 weeks on sunday. Mine were a mix blue and black cms, cuckoo and a couple of splash. Lots of variety.
My cuckoo marans were pretty big chicks, but nothing compared to the BCM. Sweet, sweet chicks, too.
With no water in the wells, I'm holding at 30% with the vent fully open, so I guess I'm going with that. I still won't weigh my eggs, so all I can do is
fl.gif

The extra 4 weeks since the last time I collected for setting really allowed the pullets to gain some size in their eggs. The tray is much more full this time. I started the first row right up against the front wall of the tray, and by the time I got to the 4th row, I didn't even have to put another rail in to hold them. 4 eggs went from wall to wall, I just had some small gaps at the end of the rows that I had to fold a little paper towel in to. The only two things that concern me is a few of the eggs are 11 days old, and I didn't turn them twice a day while storing like I should have. I turned them at night, but always forgot in the mornings. Hopefully the results will be a little better this time
