She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Thank you, but understand that I am not a large scale or profitable chicken operation, at all! I raise a rare breed for the joy of seeing them improve. I don't regularly sell chicks, only occasionally, and they are mostly the lesser quality birds, Easter Eggers and such.

I just love that it is so easy and worth it on the grounds that my time is valuable to me and my stress level is so much lower. It cost less than a daily anti-anxiety Rx and is less dangerous, and more effective. It was also less than a vacation and lasts longer. If you do decide to get one, it can pay for itself in chick sales and hatching for other people (there's room for that!) The resale on them is very good, too, in case you fear you may not stay in chickens.

I highly recommend it for everyone that hatches more than once or twice in a year. I know the joy it brings me and want that for all my chicken loving buddies!

Also watch Craigslist and be patient, as I found a GQF 1402 and a Brower brooder for $250, and put $80 into replacing both turner and timer motors to ensure reliable operation. This is a three rack, auto turning, proportional controller model that has not varied half a degree since I fired it up a month ago.

Nah, the turkeys are plentiful, but feral ratites are not. I just wish I knew for sure what they were. They have to be pretty wily, though, as this is predator country. Black bear, coyotes, hogs, feral dogs, bobcat...

I'm back home so I looked up some photos of various ratites. They are definitely emu.

I am always willing to help when I can, so no worry there.

I for one, am happy you are here. We have your back, so don't be shy! (not that you have been anyway lol) you're gonna have a great hatch and I'm excited to see those Welsummers!!
Thank you guys soooo much, y'all have made me feel very welcome and much more confident about this hatch. That goes for all of you guys, thank y'all so much, everyone has been so awesome and very helpful, I wouldn't have been able to do this without you guys.

Put ice in a glass, fill with water, place thermometer probe in it don't let it touch glass. Temp should read 32f
K, I'll do that now with the meat thermo, I can't do it with the incubator warehouse 1 as I don't think I can get the probe wet, it got little slats in it and I think it'll mess it up. I guess however much it's off by I add or subtract to make 32°?

Just calibrated it, it read right at 33° so should I turn the bator up 1 degree?

Personally I wouldn't. If it had been further off, maybe, but 33 is pretty darn close and your calibration test could err a degree or two. Turning up is not a good idea unless you are absolutely certain! I'd say hold off and check air cells in a few days. Lets hear input from others though.

X's 2 better low than high.

Amy, is your's still air? If so what do you set you thermostat at? I've read varying degrees online for the still air bators anywhere between 100° and 103° so I'm not sure what the best temp is.
