Yes, essential oils are... well... essential, lol, in my opinion. But alot of people don't realize to get the desired effect it has to be essential oils, not just peppermint extract or peppermint cooking oils and such. But they have amazing results in many applications.

K, I'll leave it be for now. I don't want to fry them. This is hard, lol.

I think you have a little more wiggle room with still air. I can't handle still air because I obsess over a half a degree. I had a still air for a few days and when I would try to get the right temp it would either jump up to 103 or down to 98! Drove me nuts. If it's steady maybe you should leave it or ever so gently and slightly turn the knob the tiniest bit and then watch it for a few hours!

So if it reads 99.5 or close at the middle of the eggs that will be ok? I've noticed there's about a 3-4° difference between the top and the bottom of the eggs. In a still air will the temp be the same horizontally across, like will it read the same on the sides as in the middle or is there a slight difference. I put all the eggs just inside of the heating elememt and tried to avoid the middle incase that was a cold spot. I know I'm going to invest in a forced air fan kit for this if I plan on continuing to use it instead of trying to find a more expensive 1.

I thought I read to put the eggs in the middle and avoid the corners of possible. Amy will be able to answer that. Also I read to rotate the eggs every once in awhile. So the ones on the left get switched with the ones on the right.
Eta: I wanted to ask if you have a turner or are hand turning? Or are they upright in a carton with holes on the bottom?

I had that exact problem at forst, before I put the eggs in. I turned it up the tiniest bit and it jumped to 104 and then turned it down and it plummeted to 97, lol. But after a while I would make an adjustment and let it sit for an hour or so and, with some fine tuning, it leveled out right where I wanted it eventually. I'll keep that in mind, rotating them. I'm kind of leary though cause everyone has said to handle them as little as possible since they're shipped eggs, I put them right inside of the heating element so they aren't close to the outside edge but I also avoided the middle so they aren't to far away from the heat source and with the egg turner I think they are being heated pretty evenly on both sides.

I just measured the temp at the middle of the eggs and it's reading 99.9 and my thermo was off by about 1 degree, in ice water it read 33°. Do you think I'm ok?

I do hope that those Americanas were not Am roo over cuckoo marins. If so, I'm betting you were duped and are now the proud owner of a bunch of male Black sex linked Amerans.

I have a whole collection of pure bred RhodeEaster Faverolles. I'll make someone a good deal on some of these very rare chicks!

Seriously, though, I'm glad Friday got some friends for Solo.

Personally I wouldn't. If it had been further off, maybe, but 33 is pretty darn close and your calibration test could err a degree or two. Turning up is not a good idea unless you are absolutely certain! I'd say hold off and check air cells in a few days. Lets hear input from others though.

Amy, is your's still air? If so what do you set you thermostat at? I've read varying degrees online for the still air bators anywhere between 100° and 103° so I'm not sure what the best temp is.

The fan kit was added to my LG so it's forced air now. Because the air is layered in a still air and not even throughout it is recommended that the temps are taken near the top of the eggs and should be 101-102 or 101.5ish. I would not adjust from where you are now for the simple fact that it's fine and as you noticead a tiny adjustment can send your bator into a heat spike. Because I have forced air I aim for 99.5, but as long as I can keep it above 99 and below 102, I don't freak...lol I adjust as little as possible. I don't like to see it above 101 and I will "crack the window" and let some warmth out past that, but I don't freak unless I see it going above the 102. I generally average 100 and most of my hatches start pipping by the evening of the 19th because I run a tad warm. In the 9200 it will be warmer directly under the heating elements and cooler the farther out and toward the center so make sure you are taking that into consideration and periodically moving the thermometer around in the bator if you can to monitor for cooler/warmer areas. Even with my fan, I still find this to be an issue and I rotate my eggs around accordingly to try to even out the development. Also try to make sure that you balance the mass of eggs between the two sides as this can cause one side to run warmer than the other. Did I forget anything?

Ok, I think I got all that, lol. I feel a little better now that I calibrated my thermometer and it was pretty close, I check for warm and cool spots also. Now should I still rotate seeing as they're shipped since everyone has said to handle them as little as possible or just leave them? I feel like I'm dealing with live grenades or Ether, lol!!

I love it!!! I am doing this for my next hatch.
Oh no!!! Poor baby.
Did you take a picture??? If so PM me if you did. I want to see it.
Okay......that's terrible. I'm glad Solo has some buddies now but dang. Some people are just so stupid.
Uhhhoh!
:lau
I bet she loves it!
I lover essential oils!!! I diffuse them in the house all the time and I made balms for when the girls get sick. Wonderful stuff!!!
No photo evidence of the hay bale ;)
Just set what I hope to be my last set of the season. If I keep on with these 55% hatches, that will give me the 30 BCM I wanted for the winter :fl
