She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Ok, I think I got all that, lol. I feel a little better now that I calibrated my thermometer and it was pretty close, I check for warm and cool spots also. Now should I still rotate seeing as they're shipped since everyone has said to handle them as little as possible or just leave them? I feel like I'm dealing with live grenades or Ether, lol!!
When you candle them if you think you have some that are developing slower than others, just rotate them to the areas under the heating element, if they all look on schedule then don't worry about them.

These BCM have humbled me on my hatch rate. Maybe I should send them to Queenie

As long as you come get them when they hatch!! lol

And REALLY let her show you up? Surely not!

Actually I think you should send her some..
That would be soooo funny!! Then again if they really are that much harder to hatch, it'd totally knock me off my "high horse" lol

My rep would be ruined!!

I'm with you, let's just leave well enough alone. As much as I would love to knock you off of your high horse, I would hate to see you hatch my eggs better than me :gig

No photo evidence of the hay bale ;)
Just set what I hope to be my last set of the season. If I keep on with these 55% hatches, that will give me the 30 BCM I wanted for the winter :fl

Glad you got that bale! Good luck with the hatch!! Anything with the other eggs or did you just toss them? I'm starting to not like eggtopsies myself. I mean they are good if you're trying to figure out what position the chick was in but otherwise they just tell me what I already knew.

Thanks for the advice Amy, I really do appreciate it
No problem.

I am too curious. Of course I do mixes, so half of the curiosity comes from wanting to know what they would have been if they had hatched, the other half of me just wants to know for sure that they are gone and I'm not tossing a live chick.

Just tried it and still can't see anything. I think the speckles are throwing me off. I thought I saw an air cell on 1 but after I looked real good I think it was just the coloring of the egg. I'm terrible at candling!! I wish 1 of you guys was hear to help me

Are you using brand new batteries in your flash light? IF that doesn't work, make a candler out of a table lamp.

K, I can't remember where I heard day 4 or 5 but I'll wait til day 7 instead. I hope I can keeps my hands out of there til then, lol. I can see right now when it comes time for them to start hatching I'm going to be an extreme meddler, lol
I'm sure you heard day 4 or 5 on this thread, b/c it's populated by a bunch of candling junkies. I've been known to start candling at day 3 and doing a side by side with an un-incubated egg, to compare, hoping to see "the glow of life" which can usually be seen! Normal people candle around day 7, possibly 10 or 14, and again at lock down. But... normal is highly over rated.

We came home at 5:30 PM after being gone all day. Half of the flock had flown over the electronet and were enjoying some free range time. There were 2 hawks circling. They didn't seem to be much deterred by some heavy noise makers. I'm glad I'm still keeping Mama and babies tractored when I'm not around to supervise them. As far as I can tell, my gender selection is working... 3 hatches in a row. It looks like this group is 67% pullets.
