She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Rooster question.

My RO cockerels are about 5 months now, and the Alpha one crows all.the.time. Seriously - I was trying to work this morning and he was crowing about every 30 seconds to a minute for 2 1/2 hours straight. He just loves to crow.

Will he outgrow it and tone it down to more reasonable amount, or should I cull him? If I do cull him, will the other cockerel just pick up the tempo and do the same thing? My goal is to have a breeding quad of Orloff and am planning on only keeping one boy. I also have another one around 3 months old, and my plan was to pick the best of the 3 in a couple of months.

I'm on a waiting list for some import chicks, so I could cull them all and wait if I have to. Any advice?

Oh, ok. Thanks for the recap. My turner doesn't click like that yet. I hope you don't have stripped gears, but as long as it is turning I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe the gears are just dry. The Brinsea manual does say to spray it with WD 40. The good news is you can get a replacement turner. The bad news is it will cost more than half of what you paid for the whole thing...

I never had asked u bout instructions or anything because all has been well, except This, i wont buy another turner. Im pretty sure its a deffective part of owning a 40. Ill let u know as i look around more. Im pretty sure its stripped and stripping furthur with use. I might turn it off and hand turn em so that i can use the turner when i expect not to be here? im glad i can turn the whole oct once it gives up on me tho thatll b easy and itll keep the incubator more stable. I contacted the man i bought from, told him i had set eggs and he hasnt replied, but when he does, im going to politly point out the stripping and how im unhappy about it.

I read the "parade for retiring w the chickens" and forgot to quote it...

A lil bit about me...

I cant work yet. Trien to get there. i went insane on my last job. The poultry in general is my therapy. Without the birds i wouldnt have the desire to Live at all anymore. I was my grandmas caregiver, but i had to put her in a home because i couldnt ever get enough time off to unwind. I was SO up tight that i attacked myself repeatedly leaving physical scars. I was almost hosptalized when we lost her, only 4 months after i gave up. It was literally my care keeping her going, not just alive but Living. Grandma suffered alzhiemers as well as a dehabilitaing stroke. I taught her to play the piano and walk again. I hated myself for my weakness and for giving up on taking care of her, for a long time. now days, mostly im just thankful we had that time togther.
Wow, sounds like the chicken therapy is helping, and just to be able to discuss it must be some relief and therapy in itself. Alzheimers is awful!

I'm always available for PM if you ever want to vent!

All of the bottom ones look exactly like silkie eggs! The top row ones look bigger then silkies but they were laid by a silkie?

Positive about the top row. She is the only one that has been in the nest boxes since I took the GC's to camp... until this past weekend... She has been laying for about 3 weeks now, always different sizes, but color has been fairly consistent. But its definitely 2 new ones today, I checked before I left for work, so either she laid 2 in one day (which isn't impossible) or Bo is laying too, or a LO is laying...

Thank you! :hugs: your right, and thats why i put it out :) simply being able to share it helps, and the ability to tell people, is a mile from where i started :)

The styrofoam 'bators are touchy, but Amylynn can walk you through it. You don't have to spend $4000 on one, but if you start hatching a lot, you would be amazed how much easier a $400 one can make life.
Or, you can do like sideWing and build one for $25 that kicks my butt

I had one good hatch so far. It's still in BETA. I added a fan last week. As soon as I get my Brinsea spot check I'm setting a bunch of OE eggs for the next test.

I think every single one of us is trying to figure out a way to make enough money off of these chickens to retire and stay at home with them. The first one that figures it out gets a parade

I was just going to cover costs and pay my two boys whatever is left. If I can figure out how to retire off of chickens I will let you know. Well, I will sell you the ebook for $10 that will teach you now to do it.

I think I just figured it out.

Well, the mystery that I thought would be solved with eggs continues.... I got 2 eggs today. I got a different looking one yesterday, which made me wonder if maybe a LO is laying, but I saw the "male" silkie, Bo Duke, in the nest box this morning. Today I came home to 2 eggs. So I'm sure one came from one silkie, but I still don't know if the other came from the Bo Duke or one of the LO's!!! Ugh!! I guess I'm going to have to put a camera in the coop!!

sometimes he pops on at night with the girls he has a lot of work during the day and can't post unless he has a break and then he starts at the back of the thread and works his way in so he replies to the posts in descending order and after he does all of that then he will tell the end of the story hopefully he will get to finish it before he has to go back to work unless we can get a rain day on rain days he has more time and might be able to finish the story in one sitting after making funny jokes about the other posts he's read I like that guy
The last I read he had just found a road he had not investigated yet. Did I miss a trailer mystery post?
