AWWWWW, oh my goodness, that is too cute!! He's adorable!! I hope he makes it. So tiny.So here's my updates:
1) I was supposed to tell everyone that if we tag Sally she will drop in to say hi. (I gave her the inside scoop about the thread so she's prepared)! But my morning was so busy she beat me to it!
2) I woke up and the little quail was still alive and peeping! But his feet were curled. Now I know that he's just a quail. $2 for a dozen eggs. But any experience I gain can be directly applied to chickens that I hatch! So all experience is valuable to me. So I made him little tape booties and he's doing great! It was a real challenge to make them since he's so tiny!!

Off to set the rest of the eggs!!!
You can set a Brinsea to intentionally cool up to 2 hrs/day, so I'd say you'd have a good 30 minutes in styrofoam. The eggs being out won't be a huge deal as long as you put the lid right back on the incubator after you remove them to maintain temperatureOk, everyone, next ?, lol. How long can eggs be out of the bator before harm I'd done. It's about 75 to 76° in my house, the bathroom may be closer to 80 which is where I'll be candling. I was advised to candle and write down which eggs have loose or completely detached cells and any other damage I might see so I'm wondering how much of a time crunch I'm on?

So so tiny! Glad he's surviving!
Do you know if it was a jumbo quail egg? I'm betting mine are going to be that small too. Some of my eggs aren't much bigger than big quail eggs.
That whole night time thing amuses me! I'm up and down often during the night, so... my eggs get hand turned even in the middle of the night. Even, odd number of times/day... makes not a lick of difference to me. IMO... it's just an other one of those "got to do's" that needs to be challenged... even if you sleep like a log 8+ hours/night!I'd say it would depend on how many times a day you tilt it... only 3, I'd go with just each side... 5 or more and I'd go side, flat, other side... but for nighttime I'd always make sure it was one side and the next night, the other side... JMO, though...![]()
Some chicks hatch just fine with detached air cells, but the percentage is lower. If the air cell is detached will it kill the chick or will he/she just have a harder time pipping into it?
Megan. Perspective: They are just eggs. They could just as easily be breakfast as put in an incubator. Yes, you spent a lot of money for them. But that money is already spent. So... they are still just eggs. This is a huge learning experience for you. Relax! Take a deep breath. If you get one chick out of this experience, you're doing great. If you end up with a total bust, you've gained 21 days of valuable experience. No matter what your results, you will move on, and be more experienced and able to help the next newbie. Next set, get yourself some local eggs. Go shopping at the farmer's market if you have to!!! I still have NEVER hatched shipped eggs. Hoping to rectify that situation next spring!!! And, maybe... you'll be able to talk me through it!!!@SC: yes, I am a BIG worrier!! I'm always worrying about 1 thing or another, that's why I have more grey hair than blonde at 35Ever since I started the incubator the day before I got my eggs, my stress and worry level has gone through the roof. And don't ask about when the eggs got here, that was a BAD day!!![]()
