She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Hi All!

Just trying to get caught up after a long weekend. I'm 400+ posts behind. Anything I should know about? Besides...

Welcome Sally Sunshine!

WV, it looks like the hatch might be going well?

I'm online to have the best hatch for me yet. The new Brinsea Spot Check is amazing. I was running on the lowest end of the possible hatching scale. Probably led to some of my chicks curled foot issues and definitely led to my late hatches. I might see hatching on day 19/20 just like everyone else. Fan is working well, egg shell temp is about 100.2 and humidity is at 45% which is great for my dry environment.

SC do you have a 4 day roundup handy by chance?

You missed my Ams and made me the bad guy for telling someone else they had easter eggers.
Welcome back :smack
Hope you get to feeling better :D

I didn't miss your Am's... saw them on 2 different threads... :tongue

They're looking great, seriously... how are the pea combs looking on the boys?

ETA: thanks, mouth pain is the flockin worst...

The ones I suspected were boys all turned out to be boys, so I may get better at sexing as time goes. The combs are all very tight. Overall, very pretty birds. I have one blue with a little leakage, and a black that is still showing some purple sheen, but I have one black with a gorgeous green that will be my Am breeder. I have a blue that is looking great for the olive egger pen. I also have a splash, but I will be selling him just because he would limit my colors. I just advertised them this weekend, so hopefully I can thin the herd and wait for the girls to start laying :thumbsup

Whew, it may have to wait until I get to the PC :gig

New babies. These two are sold, along with my Leahy incubator and an LG turner and some EE eggs.

Eco 20 doesn't offer much headroom for turkey poults! But at least it's safe.

So sick...I just want to go to bed.

Nope, didn't say bad guy...this time...lol I was just curious who was going to be the first to say it. Especially after our discussion on the breed....lol Like I said, I thought about it, but I couldn't...lol Didn't want to take the opportunity away from anyone else...

Sorry to hear you dont feel well. He/she is adorable sitting there like that.

Ha! I see that as a challenge, my chicks won't be popping eggs for another few months but I think I will make a incubator lol I'm not gonna do research on it because I want to do my own design but can someone let me know what a egg needs? Temp, duration ext. how hard can it be?

I'll try and get some better pictures for you to help me pick the main man. The black is fairly obvious, but the blues are a little harder. There are 4 of them, so if you take away the leak there are 3 to choose from. They all look similar, but one is a little bigger, more personable, and is showing more black in his head and hackles. He may just be an early developer, but he is beautiful. The blue isn't going to be as big a deal as picking the right black, because he is getting my BCM cull hens. If sidewing's bcm turn out as good as I think these Ams are, we are going to make a great team :thumbsup

My favorite feeder for no waste is plastic, and has a lip on the bottom that bends back in toward the center about 1/2", plus its hanging, so they can't stand on it and kick it out with their feet, and they can't shove it out with their beaks either. Very little waste. Do need to work on PVC for the camp feeders though.

I know what you mean about the dogs chasing the small/fast ones.... mine were the same way! Flit... flit... oooh... ooooh... something to chase! I think that might hurt worse than a predator getting it, because the dogs sometimes just can't help themselves, and we love them too.

Guess that's the same instinct that makes him such a great ball dog! No, it's totally my fault for not having a secure enough playpen.

4 more

, maybe less depending on how many sebrights you set
So sorry about Solo. It's so tough to lose the ones you get attached to. Those little buggers are escape artists. If there is a hole they can fit through, they will find it

After one day with the Y feeders I am totally sold. That's the only way to go. I will take some more pictures so you can see the full setup, but I have a 3.5ft 3 inch pipe coming out of the top of the Y, with a sewer cleanout with a screw on cap on top. The pipe will hold over twice as much as a ten pound feeder, and should be water tight. I put two side by side in the cuckoo marans, Ams, BCM, and hybrid pens, and there was never any bickering over position. They just ate when they wanted to, and it semed like someone was always at the feeder. They liked it even more once I built the enclosures around them, I guess they felt protected. The only chickens that were wasting any were the BCM. I had one hen that took it upon herself to see how much she could scoop out, so I will be putting the extensions on those that the other poster talked about.
They are extremely easy to put together, about 10 minutes for each one. I did all 12 yesterday, and built 5 enclosures. I am very happy with them, and the chickens started eating from them as soon as I moved out of the way. It's going to be so much easier to feed in the dark this winter, since I can just walk around the pens with a bucket of food and a scoop. Two pipes per pen hold enough food for 5 or 6 days, so with my 5 gallon waterers, it will be easier to take a long weekend camping trip

Sounds like I'll give them a try. I think DH has some spare pieces in the shed I can use.

LOL - I was going to say it, but I was on my phone and didn't feel like typing.

for FridayYet's loss...

Was busy this weekend then felt like crap yesterday... fighting bad toothache now... sorry for all I missed...

Pretty birds everyone...

Thanks Ravyn. Hope you feel better too! Swishing with salt water? It can help a bit.

And I'll volunteer for test hatches in the spring - you know, to test your shipping methods and all that.... (LOL) SIdeWing is closer, and near the same altitude so I'm sure he's wanting me to test hatch..........
