She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So did you go out and put them in last night?
I had to go out and check... just had to... I'm so RED!!! Mama was on the roof of the broody pen. The babes were lined up against the inside wall of the pen. So I just closed the pen door. I don't want to leave them unconfined in the coop at night, b/c there are 22 adults and the coop is 10 x 12. I'd hate to see them cornered. Perhaps tonight, if they present the same scenario, I'll prop their broody door so they can get in/out but the bigs can't get in.

Our White Faced Black Spanish were lovely!

Were?

But, but...

Well, I didn't need to try to get WFBS next year anyway.

Here are my babies coming up on 3 weeks old.

I have a feeling they both might be cockerels. They like to fight each other esp the Hmong. But the Ogye gives up pretty quickly so maybe that's a pullet!!!! :fingerscrossed

And good stock is VERY VERY hard to come by, We had to sell almost all of our birds when I was really sick. But I know where they went in PA ;) Here were ours....

Boadicea is betrothed. Met a lovely lady today @CaseyV who gave me this cute little fellow.

Awe. That's cool.

Nice.

Ok, quick update... (having a busy day at work already!) Half way through day 21:

12 in the brooder - 5 BTBJ, 4 GS, 1 SS, 2 OEGB. All fine and dandy!
smile.png

Still in the bator - 2 GS assists that are now out of the woods and doing fine. One had zipped the wrong end and got stuck, one had zipped about a third of the way around and stuck a leg out, so I took his cap off and he pushed out fine. One more GS was almost done zipping when I had to leave for work. 2 OEGBs and 2 GS working good pips. 5 with no action at all yet, but its still just day 21.
Congrats! Glad it's going so well!!!

Very pretty Easter Eggers
There is it!!

I was wondering who was going to be the one to say it. I thought it...but wasn't going there. Should have known it'd be you! lol

Everyone posted great pics! I loved them all but couldn't make this multi-quote any bigger!
I'm sorry. I know how disappointing it is. I dealt with a power outage with the shipped eggs last batch. I think it just put to much strain on already weak embryos. The fact that one hatched for you is a little blessing!

Awesome!!!

noooo!! I'm so sorry!!

That's great news!!
I had two that did that like crazy. And neither backed down. They would go head to head all the time. Turned out to be a male and female!

I thinking I may just do that!!
How'd the kids do getting off to their first day of school for the year?

I had a feeling that's what you'd do. (its what I would have done too!)

Found her body today.

Thanks for asking though.

How many elbows/feeding stations did you put in for 11 chickens?

Wow SC, they are looking really nice!

So tiny and adorable. Makes me want to hatch so bad! Hope you get a bunch more.
So sad, I know how attached you were to the little might.

OMG THAT CANT BE POSSIBLE!!!!

Love them! esp the black!

Congrats!!

Love them and how did you come up with Liesel name? is it german?

This calls for a wedding!
I found the name Liesel when I read the Book Thief. It is about a young German girl, set in WWII, great book and movie. Based on a true story. My puppies full name is Liesel Magdelena Vom Haus Adelheide and Rickys is Ulrich Seigfried Vom Haus Adelheide.

Yes it will be a spring wedding.

Please don't say NPR...

I started off with a 90 at the bottom of the down chute and an 18" L at the bottom with holes cored, but the feed didn't want to turn the 90. I just searched "PVC feeders" in images, and about 90% of them were the Y design. I built one, and it was the ticket, so I wound up with 12 total. I got most of the feeding stations built. I still need to build a few more. It may be overkill, but with that much food in the tube, I'm doing all I can to keep it dry.

So sorry about Solo, I think we all felt attached to that one.
I have at least one feeder for every 6 chickens, except in the silkie pen. I still need to add a few more in there.
I'm really happy with how the Ams are growing out. The hens are beautiful, too, but they are more camera shy than the boys

Very pretty Easter Eggers

Absolutely love those dogs. I want one so bad, but I'm not home enough to give one the excercise it deserves. Those are beautiful

I didn't think the blacks would be my favorite, but they are gorgeous. I have 9 roos from a straight run batch, so at least I have a good crop to pick from. The blue in the pic is one keeper, but that black is still showing a little purple sheen. I have another that has the most beautiful green sheen, and he is going to be my man in the Am pen. The blue will be getting a harem of BCM

They will be having puppies in a year as Liesel is only 1 year. Want me to put your name down for one or 2. Ricky has awesome bloodlines his daddy was a K9 for local police. Liesel is a bit blah but she is gorgeous and they both have terrific temperaments. No predators in my yard! We sometimes take them to work with us 2. We have them on the electric fence system with 2 transmitters to give them a large perimeter if we are gone as we only have about 1/2 acre fenced and its probably good that Rick pees around all the chicken coops to deter the baddies. When I let out the chickens they are not allowed outside the fenced in area with out a leash ,because I am still training them. Liesel wants to mother them at the moment and Ricky would probably chase them at the moment. They are both highly obedience trained.

4 more

, maybe less depending on how many sebrights you set
So sorry about Solo. It's so tough to lose the ones you get attached to. Those little buggers are escape artists. If there is a hole they can fit through, they will find it

After one day with the Y feeders I am totally sold. That's the only way to go. I will take some more pictures so you can see the full setup, but I have a 3.5ft 3 inch pipe coming out of the top of the Y, with a sewer cleanout with a screw on cap on top. The pipe will hold over twice as much as a ten pound feeder, and should be water tight. I put two side by side in the cuckoo marans, Ams, BCM, and hybrid pens, and there was never any bickering over position. They just ate when they wanted to, and it semed like someone was always at the feeder. They liked it even more once I built the enclosures around them, I guess they felt protected. The only chickens that were wasting any were the BCM. I had one hen that took it upon herself to see how much she could scoop out, so I will be putting the extensions on those that the other poster talked about.
They are extremely easy to put together, about 10 minutes for each one. I did all 12 yesterday, and built 5 enclosures. I am very happy with them, and the chickens started eating from them as soon as I moved out of the way. It's going to be so much easier to feed in the dark this winter, since I can just walk around the pens with a bucket of food and a scoop. Two pipes per pen hold enough food for 5 or 6 days, so with my 5 gallon waterers, it will be easier to take a long weekend camping trip

I always let the chickens finish what are in my pvc feeders before adding more food after filling up once it took them ages to get to the bottom and they were stinking and full of maggots, when I fished all the maggots out they had a feast. I only put enough in for a couple of days now. But I know they would hold enough volume if I have to be away for an extended period.

I got the impression from him saying "feed store Ameraucanas" that he wanted to know

Look, I called my EEs "ameraucanas" for 3 years before I joined BYC. Just sharing what I have learned

And you meant to say "there it is"

I would absolutely love to have one, have wanted one all my life, but with my work schedule I don't think it would be fair to the dog.
A good friend of mine has been a Malinois breeder for years, and the puppy he has been waiting for from Germany for 4 months should be arriving in the next week or two. I know yours are shepherds, but I think both of them are just the most beautiful dogs in the world. I run a landfill, and I got to watch one work one day when the police got a tip that a body was in a truck. Turns out the body wasn't there, they found him later, but watching that dog work was amazing. They way he followed hand signals, and how thourough he was in his search. They are just magnificent dogs.

I appreciate the tip about over filling the feeders. I had planned on only filling about 2 days worth, then refilling when they ate it all, but it is a nice fallback if we want to get out of town for a few days
