She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I think Frieda may be contemplating being done with the chicks--who are almost 8 weeks old. At least, she settled on the roost for a few minutes, until the cheeping got really pathetic...

Then she caved, huh?

My Am is like raise 'em quick and cut the strings fast, lol... she starts weaning them at 3 weeks... by 4 weeks they're on their own, unless it's an emergency... :gig

Yep, she caved. Of course, the big scary monster with the Rectangle of Doom (ie, me with my cell phone ;) ) was in there, so that may have had something to do with it.

I want her to be dine being broody, so in a couple of weeks I can be getting 5-6 eggs a week from her, with the Christmas lights. She'll be 2 this December, so she's still young enough to lay well. She's definitely earned herself a retirement if she keeps up her once-a-season broodiness pattern.

Ravyn,
I just stumbled across someone calling themself "Slothy' on another thread; looking for some help with some duck eggs they found in a nest with a female found dead on a road nearby.
I suggested they slide over here in the morning & try to talk to WV. Maybe if you see them first you can help them.

Meanwhile, I'm going to get horizontal & check the backside of my eyelids for stress cracks.

Found them... will give them some tips til WV gets on... :)

Boy, my gal that is buying eggs from me is getting a deal from what I'm seeing on here. I sell a doz. for 2 bucks. 18 for three.

She has been a reg. for a while. When she went on vacation, I did an add to sell them for 2.50 a doz. Wow. A lot of folks wanted them. Last time I went for feed, it was up at the Mill, so, I think I will raise my price on my eggs soon..I told her a couple of weeks ago that it was probably going to happen. She knows.

Hey Sally! Long time no see!

Good for you doing meat birds! Wish we had the room for it.

Is this chicken fat? Like the drumstick? Guess what breed, I know you know. I've never ever seen one this big, they are big, but good grief. Can we make them too fat for their own good? I can't tell if he is over weight or not. Animals are lucky that way, if we keep them fed right, they keep their weight right.

That's a big Light Brahma! Someone posted a pic here a few weeks ago with a LB pulling a child in a small wagon. We have a 9 pound 1/2 LB. They are big birds and the one in the photo isn't fat.
