I love Peretti. His use of symbolism is incredible. An other must read author is Brock and Boedie Thoene. Their stuff is incredible. One series they did was based on WWII, covering the international happenings based around the persecution and Hitler's advance. One of the books in that series is Vienna Prelude. Totally blew my socks off. An other modern day author is Karen ? (somebody help me out here!) She covers a lot of hot or controversial topics.

I barter eggs to a family who lives about 2 miles away for honey and the use of their splitter every fall. Win/win situation. I started giving my GD a spoonful of honey every day, and she was able to get off nebs. I also have some of their wax, and plan to make some jewel weed/plantain salve with it... If I can ever find the time and the ingredients at the same time.

Most of the published studies are done in super environment controlled incubators, so... all conditions would be the same in the experimental vs. control group except for the particular test hypothesis. Sally has posted a ton of studies that have kicked my brain into overdrive about pushing limits, and being aware that there are so very many options available.LOL
It does, and it can. Differences in thinking isn't bad and it's what we need to help others. Seeing the different methods should help a person in figuring out how they want to proceed seeing as how not the same thing works for everyone. Studies don't take into account all the variables that are out there. For instances studies with chicken egg and incubation. If they do a study do they do it with a controlled group that is hands off and a control group that is more hands on? Do they do a group running humidity at 50% and a group that runs at 30%? Can these variables be covered in a study? Do they have any affect on the outcomes? Egg shell quality/porosity, ambient humidity, ect...there are so many variables that truely can not be controlled in studies. Like I said, I find studies very interesting and thought provoking. Usually they leave me with more questions than answers though and I prefer to go by experience.

Math was my easiest high school subject. I loved my math teacher. But, he was very soft spoken, had a mellow monotone voice, and math was just after lunch. So, I always fell asleep. My SIL who was in the same class said he once came and stood over my desk, watching me sleep, then he turned and spoke to the rest of the class... "I really should wake her up. But, she get's straight A's." He turned, and walked back to the black board, and continued on with his lesson plan. I was incredibly shy, and would have died a thousand deaths if he HAD woke me up!!!Me too, lol...

Just finished Sir Terry Pratchett's last book. It was really good. I don't think I have ever cried that hard reading a stupid book about fake people. One of the main characters dies at the beginning, and it's really easy to see Terry in her and geeze, it really broke my heart. The world just isn't the same without him.

@RavynFallen , one thing that worked wonders for me was putting a box fan in the bedroom with one of those super duper allergy/charcoal filters on it. Gets rid of all the dander, pollen and any smells emanating from the master bathroom. I need to do this again. Cheesecloth over the vents in your house is supposed to help, too.

It will most likely cause your temp to go up. I use plenty of blankets and pillows around my bator to level out temps. Snuggle it up at night, then pull the wraps back during the day. (wood heat) If you do cover bator, be sure to leave room for circulation at the vent(s).
I don't know if skin color is covered in the Sex linked information thread. Start by checking there. But, I did find it to be a good gender indicator in my summer hatches (only one chick that did not follow the leg color pattern, and I wonder if his daddy was not Jack. His sons may have been throwing some wild oats when the last hatch was fertilized. You can do a google search re: skin color and gender. Might find something. That's how I usually research stuff.

Yes, it's my baby. I love throwing parades, but there is a reason the bar is high. If it were easy, we would be having parades every week, and they wouldn't be special any more. I would love as much as anyone to hatch one parade batch, then sit back and gloat for the rest of the year like some people, but I'm hatching every few weeks, so bad things are going to happen.
I don't think this batch is going to produce a parade either, but I am very happy with the results. I have 15 in the brooder this morning, so this is my best marans hatch yet. All of the large brown eggs with the small air cells hatched, so I learned a lot from this batch. The Davis eggs hatching points more towards the genetics of Tate's original flock as the source of my earlier issues. I won't be incubating those eggs any more. I have several cockerels coming up that hatched from those dark eggs, and 2 of them are developing nicely. I should have several more from this batch, too, so I'm hoping to get at least one rooster that can take Tate's place in the BCM pen. Tate will be given a flock of Ams next spring.
The incubator is still running, but there are no pips in the remaining light eggs. What I thought was a pip on #16 was a piece of shell from another egg. If there are no pips when I get home tonight, I will shut it down and probably won't be hatching any more until the Ams start laying some normal sized eggs, probably in December
So, no 2015 parade for me, but I finished the year with 30 marans chicks, which was my original goal, so I'm happy
Have you gone to the duck thread? Hatching parameters may be a bit different, given the nature of the beast. It would stand to reason that Mama would go to the watering hole during her daily walk about, and slosh some water back to the nest in her feathers. But, then again, perhaps she sheds it all by the time she gets back. My best hatch was with eggs that had air cells too small due to humidity jumps all over the place before LD. So I hatched them upright in cartons.Good morning all!

Im glad the humidity thing came up last night, as far as the brinsea. Ive worried about that big ole thing and its one itty bitty adjustable vent hole... I told myself i open the bator enough [at once a day (rotating trays)] so i know they arent suffocating...
I wanted to ask, ive seen it discussed But, theres no one here who mists or cools their eggs? My AH is just too flipn high i did weights again, and ive decided im not happy with their % of weight loss. Air cell sizes look only slightly less than desireable, bu thats not very accurate, the math is... These are big ole pekin duck eggs, and were at around day 24!!!!!(lockdown friday!!!!) theyre percentages are around 10-12, and by friday i want to see 16-18%. Been lossing 3-6% each week. im worried theyre gna b sticky, incubated with too much himidity. But then, some people incubate at or above the 42% that i have been stuck at. It was 50s+ when it started, and had to have two weeks to dry out to 42... This thing is its own dehumidifier when compared to our air quality here. i wanna add rice for at least a day or two if im not gna mist and cool them. Im looking for any insight into this, and or i would love someones experience.
