@Lazy: I agree. That's what I was thinkng of doing, waiting til spring to have her send replacements, hopefully she'll be a little more knowledgeable in the storing and handling of eggs by then. I'm new to all of this but even I know they need to be turned while in storage and that you shouldn't sell poop covered eggs for hatching... or for anything else for that matter.

@Ravyn: They are beautiful!! I want ducks again 1 day. I had Rouens not too long ago but they both disappeared 1 day. The drake came back 2 weeks later for a day and then disappeared again so I don't know if they've been eaten by something or if they're still alive and living on the outskirts of my property somewhere.

My son decided to make his own byc account! He even made his own thread in new member introduction. That kid cracks me up! Yes, this is why it is always said to tilt or turn them while collecting enough to set... not all will stick, but it is why a lot could stick to the inside of the shell when developing... most that stick to shell usually don't make it to hatch either... When I was moving them back to their pen the other night, Crash & Burn got startled and flew down the hill... Crash came back up, but Burn didn't... got dark quick and I couldn't find him anywhere... Wasn't planning to get Snowy's ever, but sure couldn't turn down this awesome pair... getting Lady Grey's momma is too cool as well...

I know, I was really hoping he would make it but I think the poor little guy was doomed from the beginning. I'm not so sure I want replacment eggs from her now. I don't want to be out of the time and money it took to get these (they weren't expensive at all but the gas it took to get there and home was and it was a LONG ride) but I don't want to go through this again either. The hoping and waiting and watching 1 quit right after the other. I don't know, maybe I should just cut my loses and save the cost of shipping that I'd have to pay to get replacements (I'm not making that drive again just to get more bad eggs)

With my bad batch of shipped eggs from FL, I blamed that first batch on everything from it getting lost to the power going out but the second batch was just as bad and I wished I hadn't of wasted the time and energy twice in a row!

No, Amy, bad paper lady! Can't have calls! Too loud for how the neighborhood is set up! Even if the girls are now in 4H and it would be really easy to talk the younger into cute itty bitty ducks... (Birds registered with 4H have a built-in loophole in the zoning.)

Yep, losing Burn sucks... but happy with our new gorgeous Calls... is a bit bittersweet, ya know?

Yeah, that's why I normally only candle the 1's that I'm concerned about them quitting. The others I check every few days.

I am opposite of you in that regard. If ones struggling I leave it alone...I give it time to live or die without my interference. I check the smell without moving them and at day 7 I check them all for the first time, then wait til day 12-13 to check those concerning ones. The clear ones I toss in days 7 and 12 and then I candle day 14 and then 16 before "lockdown." i don't like overhandling mine just as personal preference. Id love to be candling everyday because it just facinates my kids and me but I overrule that in favor of letting them be...

Trust me, I know how you feel. I had a horrible batch of shipped eggs that went through the ringer and none hatched! I was wondering about your bator too. That's why I was asking if you were checking the gauges against a trusted thermo & hygro. Why don't you give them a candle and see what's going on?
