She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'll have to check that. I was at one point feeding 3 different feeds. Starter/grower, grower finisher, and layer. After a discussion with Ravyn I switched to the flock layer (Purina) and went the oyster shell/and drying and crumbling the used egg shells route. I will still use the medicated starter crumbles for my incubated babies while they are brooding, but it made feeding in the coops easier.

My kitchen is such a big space that I can't get the humidity high enough to get condensation on the windows even when I brew a 5 gallon batch of beer. But the guest bath is about 5 x 8 and has a clawfoot tub with rainfall showerhead, and it's really easy to get the humidity to "dripping" in that room.

My GQF was stuffed back there because it stunk, and because it was too loud to keep in my office, but I think it will go in there for good. I have yet to find out how well the GQF will hold humidity or the recovery time, but it can't be worse than my forced air LGs were.
My LG holds and regains humidity very well. My biggest complaint with the LG is the lack of a cover over the fan kit. Everything else I've managed to- well manage. I could fashion a screen I'm sure, but I really want a Hovabator with a picture window. And technically my LG is my sister's....lol or it was before I "borrowed" it.

It is amazing how different the experiences are with different users of similar products in seemingly similar conditions.

I incubated over 300 eggs this year, in 7 different incubators. Every one had different performance characteristics even when used in the same room.

I've found many Hovabators on my local craigslist, but most are the two small window rather than the picture window model. 'Tis the season to buy.

Ok, question time!!

So as I was out walking the dog, my husband was adding water to the incubator, and he said one of the eggs "jumped" in his terms. So I was pressing my nose to the window to see if any had pipped (today is 17 planning on locking down tomorrow at 6) and indeed, one seemingly wiggled.

Should I be concerned? Should we have gone into lockdown tonight? I don't see any external pips yet.

Sounds like you've got it planned the best you can. Also it sounds like you've got a kitchen that I dream of.

The chick was getting into position for hatching! That is very good news.

They will start internally pipping soon and you will start hearing them cheep.

I'll give you the speech you have the first stage of an addiction . mind you it only get worse. first you lose sleep then forget to eat . before you know it your spending your grocery money on hatching eggs . this is not the place to look for help in fighting this addiction . but it is a good place to get a fix. good luck with the hatch . and get ready for all the work that comes after the hatch.
