Eggs are warmed by contact with an artificial skin, rather than being surrounded by warm air, and the result is much stronger and faster development of the embryo in early stages of incubation. Many breeders of exotic, rare and valuable species across the world have switched to CIT.

Fascinating concept.
I wonder if it would be easy to make something similar to this with a small water bladder heated with a small heating element of some sort, you know like a miniature waterbed, lol. That would be awesome. Or maybe sandwich the eggs between 2 thin water bladders heated to about 100°, that would be perfect. They'd have to be real thin bladders though, too much water would be too heavy.

I think one of the challenges would be to figure out a way to still allow for gas exchange through the shell while doing the contact heating. I would think something like a water bladder would hamper that fairly significantly.

Did you see the thread where Beekissed used a heating pad to hatch eggs? The heating pad was in direct contact with the eggs like a broody hen would be and she made it a realistic nest out of dirt and shavings etc and lined it with feathers. It was pretty interesting!

I don't think that would be an issue with horizontal incubation.

I would think that if the bladder was allowed to envelop the egg, it might be an issue. If you had a rack or something that would keep the bladder from wrapping all the way around the egg to the ground, then I can see why it wouldn't be an issue.

Hiya, Pyxis! :frow

I think he was referring to the "sandwiched between 2 water bladders" part... I would think those would form to much to the eggs and hamper oxygen exchange... on one surface though shouldn't be an issue...
Just a guess... :hu

Thanks Ravyn. You said it much more eloquently than I could. You're alright, all the bad things people say about you can't be true!
