She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I have another ?: I have some liquid infant vitamin drops (Poly-Vi-Sol), can I put it in the chicks water? If so how much should I use? I figured since I couldn't find any Nutri Drench in a pinch I could substitute with this, I thought it would be better than nothing.

You've been gone too long to give a full wrap up, so the short story is there was a divorce, but I still get supervised visitation

Perhaps it's for the best. Terrible things could happen if you aren't supervised.....

A hen flogging is what a hen would do to a cockrel who doesn't mind his p's and q's. Don't let that bad boy within arms length of you, EVER! Give him a run for his money, every time he crosses that arm's length boundary. Hormones are no excuse for bad behavior.

Welcome. Do tell, what are you collecting? Looked at the STC 1000? Fan? How big will that bator be? No wonder Sue is not living up to your expectations, with a name like that. I had a male cat named Sally. Got beat up by every tom in the neighborhood. He made up for his lack of a manly name by being an exceptional hunter, and an extremely loving and affectionate cat.

Sue (actually Susquehanna) was supposed to be a girl. I found him looking to be rehomed on BYC and adopted him. We kept the name because of the Johnny Cash song. He actively mates with at least four of the girls. Their backs say it all.

So far out of a dozen eggs I've tallied (I forgot to this morning- which was 4 more- crap

) I think we've gotten 8 definitely fertile. A few I was questioning so I put them under unfertile. I've looked at google pics and on here and I'm nost not experienced enough to know for dead certain.

As far as the incubator I am still gathering pieces. I think I've decided on a basic diy cooler-bater like many I've seen here and on youtube. I know it's not fancy and temperature is iffy- but it's cheap and if I'm using my own eggs there isn't too much of a loss there. I can do home DIY and there are very few handmade crafts I haven't done but I am not mechanical or electronically skilled- I think this will minimize my brain turning into pudding

Besides, I doubt I can convince my dear husband to spend more on chickens. Though I think I've wore him down. He's the reason we have a second rooster. He liked the looks of the Polish so I found one near by.

His next attraction... Ayam Cemani...

I strongly recommend that you at least put a thermostat in it. They can be bought on line for under $20. You can also pick up a computer fan for a couple of bucks, maybe even free if you can scavange at your local dump. Computer fans need a 12 V converter. Check out the excellent videos by Rush Lane poultry.

That is the one that I was leaning towards most, actually. I have two computer fans gleamed out of the work scrap as well as a 12 v converter, 2 ceramic base sockets, bits of wire and a lower water thermostat like he uses in a few of the videos. Next I think I need to find a secondary temperature gauge. We currently have a battery operated one that shows temperature and humidity that I was thinking of using-but I know most people want 2nd or 3rd proof all is well.

I'm loving this color combo! What color do y'all think she'll be when she finishes feathering out?

Poly vi Sol is great to use, but ONLY if it is the one without Iron... check it, and if no Iron it is perfect...

Yes, I made sure I got it without iron :) How much should I give them?

As long as what ever you use is accurate, you should be ok. I am a bit OCD with thermometers, so have at least 3 and sometimes 5 in my bator, move them around, and calibrate with EVERY hatch. When you know the intricacies of your bator, you'll settle into what works best for you. I also put in some air baffles to help eliminate hot spots as well as direct air to the cool spots. Tin foil is my friend!!!

3 to 4 drops in a quart waterer, or so... just enought to color the water... for a poorly one or newbie that needs a boost, I'll give them a straight drop to drink and then a couple drops of plain water to wash it down... that stuff is rough straight, lol...

Lol, ok. I'll try that. None of them seem sickly or weak, I just wanted to give them a little boost. If they have the oomphalitis (sp?) would I already see it or can it manifest later?
