She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

When you have eggs in the incubator do you leave them in the original spot or move them to different spots within the incubator?

I've done both. If you have areas of different temps, you might want to shift them around some, but I honestly doubt that it matters.

So how old are skunks when they start spraying?

About 6 weeks old. I raised orphaned babies once, in my guest bathroom. As soon as the first one sprayed, they went out to the shed.

I wonder if they have epic stare downs because they can't see through the fluff? Lol! I can imagine the squinting and insults they battered about. Fluffballs fighting is much cuter than marans fighting...I laughed so hard I almost peed watching the ameraucanas today. They do a wing flapping dance. My 4 year old asked if they knew karate. Bahahaha!

If you luck out and find a good shipper on ebay you'll still pay for them . make sure you check the shipping price as well . I have had eggs shipped from Mich . won the high bid which was the only bid all were fertile hatched five out of 16 didn't have a clue about hatching eggs. think I got the dozen shipping and all for twenty five bucks lost them all but one he was my rooster and was a good one. lost him to a leg injury . got two of his sons and twenty pullets by him just starting to lay . while the pullets are not SOP they are very pretty . you would have to see the hens to know what that rooster did for me . yes there are horror stories but there  are success  stories as well . most usps packages are insured for  fifty   dollars try to stay under that .and if they cheat you file a claim through ebay . you have thirty days from the purchase date .

Like you said, you can have great hatches or total busts. But my entire flock has been shipped eggs. It's very important to get eggs from a reputable source. You can't ask to many questions or see enough photos. If the seller is open to communication and has nothing to hide, they shouldn't mind giving lots of info on their flock and shipping practices.

My first 5 fuzzy butts hatched this morning. Not sure how well you can see em but there is 1 bantam ameraucana and 4 Mille fleur D'Uccles. I think one is hiding in the lower right corner during this shot. Will post a better photo tomorrow. 8 eggs left to hatch... Crossing my fingers that they're just a little slow.

:jumpy can't wait to see more pics!! :fl for the rest of the eggs!

Did you see my reply to your post?

Congrats!

That looks amazing. Homemade cheeses are on my list of things to learn how to make.

Check for hotspots/cool spots if you have many I would. Under my heating element it's 1-2 degrees warmer than the center and outside, so I keep a close eye on growth and if I seem to have any that are growing too fast I move them out away from under the element and if I have some that seem slower I try to move them under the element.

I haven't shared any dinner details for a while. For those who are newer to the thread, I grow a lot of things and make a lot of food. Just an old fashioned farm, ya know? Today's dinner is lasagna...with homemade pork sausage, homemade turkey egg lasagna noodles, home grown tomato sauce, homemade parmesan cheese, homemade mozzarella... Yum.
Looks super yummy!!!! I an jelly!
I snuck outside for a quick smoke after getting the baby to bed and look who literally wanted to join me...he's obviously not scared of me. I was scared to make any sudden movements, he was close enough he could have sprayed me!

Hahahahahahas!!!!!:lau. Awesome!!
Hello everyone. .I'm getting my first batch of shipped eggs.. I've heard that you should let them settle for 24 hrs before putting them in incubator? I guess I could use a few pointers.. I've hatched a few batches of my own eggs successfully. . Just never shipped eggs before. . Any help would be appreciated. ..
I let my eggs sit for 12 hours or more....up to 24. Then candle them to see how jumbled up the may be or if the air cells have detached. Then once I place them in the incubator I do not plug in the auto turner until day 3 or 4. This give the air cells some time to reset if they are going to reset. Most of the time your air cells will be a saddlebag shape or move around which usually indicates they will need yhe hatch in an egg cart. To hold the air cell up in the big end so they don't drown. Let me know if this has helped you in anyway. ;)
