So I spent the past hour + trying to figure out how to divide the coop and still be able to get in & out. I still need to figure out a roost for the trio. Now they have their own heat light & heated water dish (I wasn't going to spend another $35+ heated container so opted for the $15 heated dog dish). Now just need to figure out how to "latch" the entry point.

These 3 won't let you touch them. Skiddish broody raised brats...lol

when the hens were smaller they were kind of skiddish. One loved to sit on my lap and get petted. My dog killed her... stupid dog. Now all of them hate being held or touched. I am hoping to change that with these 3.

I'm glad you've got a solution. I just did the transition from the house to the garage brooding tank for my new little (better be) girls. Then it's out to the transition pen or outdoor brooder.

I have a question for my chickens friends. I bought a young silkie at the show last month. She's about 12 weeks old, now. I had her inside for almost a month and just moved her outside last week. Our temps were mild in the 40's and 50's. She loved going out and is doing great! But now we are having a major cold snap! Tomorrow the temps will go down below zero. Should I move her indoors? I have an area set up in my basement. I would put another young friendly pullet with her if I do, so she's not alone. Or do you think she'll be ok?

Below zero? I'll have to let one of the Yankees answer that one

Looks like hatching season is upon us!

I locked down a few SLW eggs yesterday and forgot to raise humidity. I will have to remedy that tonight.

I put some 12 week old SLW and barnyard mixes last weekend. Temps are below freezing at night and just above freezing during the day. They are doing well so far, but there is 4 of them so they huddle together.

I've got some overly friendly, some that will tolerate you and some that are don't touch me...lol Funny thing is they all (except three broody raised and three silkies) were my own hatchlings and handled often.

Thank you for the hopeful thoughts. We used bent over long nails to hook the fencing to. What you've got is looking good. They'll be happy!

Yes! -8 to be exact. It was only 8 degrees when I woke up this morning. I just made the chickens a big bowl of hot oatmeal.

Hey, Sidewing! Good luck! I did the same thing on my last hatch. I was supposed to lock down Thursday night and I figured Friday morning would be fine and I had a pip when I was taking them out of the turner rails! I have a GLW chick. It's mom was running in a poultry show I went to. I'll have to send you pics as it grows out so you can critique it for me.

Were they exposed to colder weather before you got her?

No. She was still on heat when I got her. What do you think?
