YAYYYYY!!!! I found someone willing to trade me his turkey eggs for my Easter Egger chickens hatched last year. So not only will I be making room in one coop, I'll be filling the other.

I will run a load of our chicken eggs in the GQF, ideally one shelf of 96. I'd love to fill two trays but not sure how many buyers I will have for Easter chicks as TSC has them coming in this weekend.

Our TSC started carrying them last week. Last year, TSC had no effect whatsoever on my sales

They are covered by two dark cornish roosters. Right now, the average egg I'm getting from them ways about 47-49 grams, so would be in the small/medium range. Do you think I'll have an increased risk of hatching complications at that size?

Sorry, but after conversing with SC, I kinda felt like I fit well here and honestly, need your advise on my first hatching experience. I am already planning for my second set into the bator and im only on day 3 of my first set!!!!!!! I am doing SO much reading and learning about incubating and hatching its ridiculous. I never realized how much of a science it is!

I have gone back a few dozen pages and read so much of your guys post, I hope you don't mind me butting in?

As long as the shell consistency is good (smooth, satin finish, high fertility, yolk size proportional to shell volume) then I would not hesitate to use them. It is easiest to get a consistent hatch out of similarly sized eggs. I'd rather set a tray of consistently small eggs than a mixed tray of pullet, bantam, large, and jumbos. But I do that anyway.

You can expect the chicks to pip day 19 and hatch on day 20, so I'd lock down a day earlier too. I do that by air cell rather than by date to account for incubator variations. As soon as the liquid remaining between the chick and the air cell is 3/16" or so, I move them to the hatcher.

That's right at about recommended size or so... I give mine about a month before setting, sometimes I gauge it on approx size compared to what they should be laying at full size...

For large egg layers, I think it's about 46g or bigger...

I've had some start laying at a decent size, my Am's, right away... and had others that took longer before their eggs got bigger than peewee/small size... if they look decent, then go for it... really it comes down to personal choice...

So i just posted a few of my extra young male chickens if anyone knows of anyone or is interested ....please let me know. I need them gone!!! One is crowing already and the other 3 have not yet started...but I can only imagine the complaints I will get if and when they do!!!

BTW im due right in there w all of you, the 12th is 21 but i expect day 20 with these pullet eggs as per the breeders experience.
