We have only had two shipments. Both marked "Fragile" Second one marked "Glass" as well. First one wasn't damaged, but the hatch rate was poor. This second one was packed well and double boxed. Box wasn't damaged, but 3 eggs were cracked! I'm starting to wonder if the Atlanta facility is rough on boxes. I have heard that boxes marked as eggs and live embryos are treated more roughly than those which are not.

I was thinking about 7 days without turning and a 48 hour rest prior to hatch.
I just reread that article, and read your comments and decided *against* not turning for that long. I'll probably hand turn them for the first 7, and then stop turning them at day 16, then do an upright hatch.
Should I leave them alone for 48 hours?

Detached is very normal... try putting an egg in a sock and spin it around a few times... scrambled in the shell...

I do not recommend going UPS... 1, only USPS will honor any claims from damaged boxes containing hatching eggs... 2, my brother has been a UPS driver for over 25 years and he even said do not do it...

Good to know. I will go usps next time. I did double box and the eggs were in good shape. I hope she has at least 50% hatch rate.

I was in the same predicament in November. I only had 1-2 hens laying and I really wanted to do the NYD Hal. So I started collecting eggs on November 9th. Set day was December 8th. That means my oldest egg was 31 days old when I set it. Can you believe that, that egg was the first to hatch!! I had a great hatch. I had set a dozen and 9 made it to lockdown and all 9 hatched. I stored the eggs in a egg carton on my counter and turned them once in the morning and once at night and maybe once during the day if I remembered. BUT my humidity in the house at that time was still good. So the air cells were not overly big when I set them. I think keeping your humidity up is a good idea.
I've done my fair share of shipped eggs and done lots of research on the best methods for shipped. If you need any advice for them, please don't hesitate to ask. What's your plan so far for them?

A 31 day old egg that hatched!?!? Wow.. that's crazy. My plan with the shipped eggs? Well.. I guess I don't have an exact plan. I'm going to candle them and go from there. I know they need to rest for a bit and I am going to do as much reading on here about incubating shipped eggs. There's more knowledge here than I can shake a stick at! I just have to find the time to sit down and read it.

 well as long a I'm awake at that hour it will be my pleasure .and besides you are suffering from low post count . very quiet aren't you . Walnut posted her studies on the long term storage and hatchability hope you read those .  Just follow your dates and you will be fine . We are always around .

LOL, yeah I guess I come across as quiet. Truth is, I'm quite social and have a great sense of humor.. getting a chuckle out of you guys - looks like a fun group. I just don't have time right now between 2 kids, the animals and working too many hours! I'll take it though - job security right??

I got another olive egg today! That makes 2 so far. She must be on the same "every other day" schedule as my dark-laying marans hen. She just started up a couple days ago, she's been on break for awhile.
