She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I can't say what their parentage is.. I might be able to find out. They're both crested with copper necks. The lady told me they were F3 OE's. If I had to guess.. maybe they're crested cream legbars crossed back to BCM's a couple times. But that's a stab in the dark.
They both look like this
400

This hen here is the one that layed the speckled brown egg. Her sibling is laying an olive egg.

Pretty hen! You are probably right, Cream Legbar and BCM.

The further you get away from the true blue parent, your chance of keeping a blue egg gene drops and your chances of getting a brown egg layer goes up.

I have some 1/2 Legbar, 1/2 Orloff growing out. Any girls should lay green eggs since they will have inherited one copy of the blue egg gene from their Legbar mom. If I pair them with a BCM to darken the green, only half of their offspring will inherit a blue egg gene, and half won't.

Once it's gone, all you can do is mate the brown layer to a true blue layer and then the resulting chicks should lay green.

That makes sense. My hope one day is to get some pure wheaton ameraucanas. I'm waiting until I find some really nice ones. I found an old ad on here and messaged the memeber, but they're not selling anymore. They were the prettiest blue eggs.. and if I ever wanted to hatch a few OE's, I could just cross them with one of my roosters. My wish list for birds never ends..

I have an nn/ee that lays good green eggs. She's brown with a big old bowtie. When I did my pullet hatch I hatched 4 of her eggs. All hatched nn, one looks exactly like her. The other three were white and two were roos that went to my nephew. The white offspring lays a light brown egg and the one that looks just like her momma lays a beautiful even darker greener egg. My father loves those the best because he says they have huge dark yolks. I wouldn't mind a couple more green egg layers and a couple dark brown to round out my bouquet.

It's really fun having different colors. Hoping to get some more BCM and some F1 OE's in a month or so. I'll be hatching some Barnevelders for someone locally, and she'll give me some Barnie eggs in payment if I want.

I just don't have any pure while eggs layers. Might pick up an Ancona if I see one in a feed store this spring.

Amy, I if you're interested, I could send you some eggs. I've never shipped, but I'd be good practice for me.
Thanks for the offer.

I actually am at my limit for the moment.....lol I have to put up a 3rd small coop for my silkie hatchers if I have a good hatch, (it'll be my first attempt with shipped eggs, so little nervous.) I will probably downsize the big coop though and cut the ones I am not really ecstatic over so I can get more of what I want, just waiting to see if egg sales pick up this spring first. I want to add more spitzhauben hens too so that I can breed and sell pure spitz and silkies and have my mixes for eating eggs and my enjoyment....lol

My Spitz lays white, but they aren't overly large, and I believe my Raven, which is austrolorp mix, is the other one laying white. I like the BCM eggs, but I find the hens, themselves rather dull. The roos are pretty though.

Dull as in personality or as in color? Mine had nice orange hackles as a juvie, but now is almost solid black.
