She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So I just set tonight 8 BLRW, 3 SS, 1 BCM/RIR cross, 10 SLP, 2 SLP/EE, and 2 F1 SLP/SLP/EE. Next week I will be getting a 12 eggs from Ruby to give it another try. I hope they arrive the same as yours Amy!!! :fl. Praying the post office handles them better. I plan to hand turn 5 times a day depending on the air cells with the silkies and up that humidity to 40 to 50 percent.

Cool. I would love to have some RIR/BCM , ore pure of either/both

My next set will be whenever I get to the point of having no chicks that are too young to sex.
Probably 10 weeks unless I get another broody, or a good deal in lav chook eggs at the auction next week.

From the very first post. It actually started on another thread and that is how this one was born.

Same. I have a tendency to be more hands on also.

The title should be changed to something like "Code Colors and meanings which one are you?". or something Lol

Well, I found out that my brother and his wife will be happy to take whatever chicks I want to give them - so I added more eggs today! This could be a problem, I can totally see how it can become addicting. Started with 20 in there yesterday and added 8 more today - they were nicely shaped and clean and so I just had to! Lol. I definitely don't need 28 chicks, if they all hatch, so I'll be gifting quite a few. Plus, I want to buy some more hatching eggs soon (this was a test hatch, remember - like 6 or so, yeah right!). There are a couple more breeds I wanted to get this year so I need to find room somehow for at least some on my list.

So far, happy with this bator - Hova Bator with turner and fan kit. Holding nicely around 100* and about 20% humidity. I was surprised the humidity was so low since the ambient humidity was in the 60's I think before closing the lid and turning it on. Let me know if you think I should add a sponge to bump it a bit over 20% (dry/low humidity method). Thanks!

What are SLP? Either I'm too sleepy or I just have no clue. Enlighten me?

I lost a total of 18 out of my first 2 hatches that suffocated without zipping. Since then I have helped 40 both in incubator and under Broodies and only had 2 of those that I helped not grow up to healthy chooks.
GOOD LORD, do you have a fan in the bator? What's the settings at? So it's happening with the bator and the hens???

I keep my humidity at 20% so I don't see why you would need to add sponges.

OK I"ll be the one to say this, don't get scared, don't freak out. You have what is called HD, it's a disease, there's no cure, you can't get a shot to make it go away, you can't take a pill to slow it down or anything. Doctors ALL around the world are trying to find a cure for it but are not having any luck.

YOUR GONNA BE OK, it's nothing to panic over. We all have it. What is HD? well I will tell you. Breath, Again your going to be OK, it's called "hatching disease". Sorry to have to give you the bad news. just let the disease run through your veins, there's nothing you can do. It does lead into more serious diseases like CSHD (can't stop hatching disease) then CGED. (can't get enough disease) it goes on and on.

Your GONNA BE OK... LOL the only know way to help the disease is by HATCHING AWAY!!!!!
