I'm so excited

Yesterday my cuckoo marans, Chocolate, squatted for me. She's 30 to 35 weeks old and has yet to lay an egg (freeloader). None of my other 3 girls (28 to 38 weeks, orps and an ameracauna) have layed yet either

so I've been waiting for eggs forever

How long does it usually take, after squatting, to get eggs? And will the other girls get the hint once one starts? It would be so great if we got an egg (or eggs) this weekend while my granddaughter is here.

Thanks for any info.

It should be 1 - 2 weeks, but it may be sooner unless you were checking her squatting every day until now! Our 4 chicks, all the same age, started laying over a period of 7 weeks. I don't know if they inspired each other, but the later ones started using the nest box quicker.

Could be tomorrow, could be a while. I'm pretty sure my Javas still aren't laying -- they squatted back in November. My 'dottes laid pretty soon after that first squat, though

Very very exciting to see them do that for you the first time, isn't it?!

Well, I haven't checked her every day. I think the last time was about a week ago. So, I guess I'll have to contain my excitement (yeah, right). This is just too much fun

Thanks.

my BSL layed a week after her first squat. the BO and W'Dotte have both been squatting for about a week now and still no eggs. RIR hasn't even thought about squatting yet! really is fun, isn't it?!!!!

I can't wait

I've been checking the nest box almost every hour. It's snowing today, so the girls are in. That's actually worked in my favor, since they free range around the yard when it's nice out. I hope I don't have to go on an easter egg hunt to find eggs next week

but even if I do, it's still the best fun this old lady has had in a good many years

Has she started to sing to you about eggs yet? After the squatting with my barred rocks came the hen song and making a general ruckus. Then they began to lay and settled down. They day my second BR layed she was announcing it to the world all day long. Her sister was helping with the chorus. Sheesh. If it was me I would probably make just as big of a deal if I was laying an egg for the first time.
