she won't stop crowing...this is serious....

the "crowing" is a bit different, you can tell the difference for sure, but just as loud...the first time i heard her do it, i thought, oh man, our next door neighbor bought a roo, so i went outside and as i was walking towards the sound, i kept getting closer to MY hen house...then i saw TaTa (the bantam), perched on her little fence, just "crowing" away...i was IN SHOCK!

i'm hoping this will pass, like it did last time...

I'm not sure what to suggest then. I have 2 LF rosters and a tiny Sebright rooster that all crow in my coop in the morning. It is made of wood (single layer) and muffles the sound tremendously. You can technically hear the crow but it certainly will not wake you. My coop is also close to my house and I have my windows open and I can barely hear them when they are inside. I guess I am having a hard time understanding at how a bantam can crow so loudly that, even when kept inside the coop, it is enough to bother neighbors. They must be very light sleepers or simply want absolute silence around them.

Sounds like she's reacting to first light. Would it be possible to shutter any windows in your coop and have a light (timer) come on later so that you can delay her crowing until the neighbors are awake? You need light for egg production but if it's possible to control first light you may be able to solve this.

The idea of a dark container would work too but you'd have to segregate her from the others which might create another brand of crowing...

I had a hen that crowed... She sounded like she was howling...AhWOOOOOO!!!

Now my 5 year old Leghorn that's moulting is trying to crow...she actually sounds more like a Grackle, that rusty hinge sound.

I wonder, as I have a hen that will crow, that it may be a way to attract a roo. Think about the nature and nurture of these birds, is one choosing dominence or crowing to send out the word that we need a roo and trying to draw one in thinking there is a suiter in the area.
I have the "big girls" and since I have let the 2 pullet and 1 roo cochin bantams out with the general population, at first she would chase him down, I would watch closely, now his comb is pinking up, 8 weeks old, I have not heard a single crow from the girls (nor him either!). He will alarm all the girls when there is a bird flying over and they all listen to him!
Can you borrow a roo to see if she stops crowing? Perhaps not put them together, but so she can see him and know that there is a king.
I'd love to hear your opinions on the roo/hen crow.

My dominant hen screams at me. Is it a scream or a cock a doodle doo she does? Just learning still so I'm curious about the crowing thing. I was going to post about my one gal being a loud emotional mess but she does a long horror movie scream. And this witch comes up to me talking like that wanting to be petted.
