Shell-less eggs-membrane only?

I just found one today..

My best layer died yesterday at the hands of my dogs (argh, dunno how that fence got unlatched..but we will be starting chicken training tomorrow/with a muzzle)

Out of my three hens, she always laid the largest eggs, so I'm pretty sure it was hers..

She got the ---- scared out of her..

I know this reason doesn't apply to the first post..
But it might help someone else?

How sad.

I'd sure cry if one of mine died. I don't know how I'd replace a same age one if one did die. Perhaps just get along with three.

A friend lost all 9 over night. He can't imagine that he left the latch open so his mind is temped to think it was chicken rustlers.

Yes, I have cried too much, woke up with swollen eyes..

I'm very blessed tho that I have been incubating all the eggs over 60 grams recently..
Since she laid the biggest eggs, Most of the babies will be hers..

(edited to add..I have 3 baby chicks in my bathroom, 7 in my hatcher, and 12 in the incubator)

This past fall I found an extremely large soft shelled egg , with a small tear in it, laying on the coop floor. Much to my surprise, when I opened it there was a small hard shelled egg inside it. I surmise that the hard shell egg was her first egg. Before it could be laid it was engulfed by the following egg. The point of the story is that with pullets just starting to lay you should expect just about anything. Sooner or later they get in sync.

Way cool.

I giggled about "chicks in my bathroom." Being a hermit I raised mine in the living room.

Twice daily now I spend about five mins sitting with them in their chicken tractor—they jump up on me, each has a favorite spot, one always tucks her head between my arm and body, one on the shoulder, and another on my lap—mornings for petting, evenings for a birdseed snack. Being a communication-skills coach I mimic their banter and soon they get it all out and are quiet. It's pretty much like humans, they just need to be gotten.

It's amazing to experience them looking directly in my eyes. I have no idea what we're saying to each other but I'm sure it's about world peace and prosperity, and other such lofty topics. They each have their own litany that seldom varies.

Ahh yes, Brownie (the one that just passed on) was my "pet chicken" She would come running to me to save her..She would fly up to my shoulder (or back)..she would always let me pick her up and pet her..

I also spend a bit of quiet time with my chickies..usually in the morning when my body is just getting started moving

I used to take my coffee out there but I like a lotta cream in mine, and they liked the same I guess cause they would try to steal it

Hmm, I'm a hermit too..But I have a roomate (he owns the place) so no chickens in the living room..hehehe..But he has his own bathroom, so my bathroom is a good place for the babies

I also bawk bawk to mine..My neighbors must think I'm nutz..But I'm happy, so I don't really care what they think

Losing close chickens stinks. I've lost a few to random things that could have been prevented. I bury all my chickens, even if i wasn't close to them. I don't cry any more though. I'd be a unhappy person...have to just get over It suppose.

I had a hen royal palm turkey that only laid about 4 eggs and they were all rubber eggs.. she was free range and ate layig mash and had all the sunlight she could handle..
she tasted just fine..
